per Shipley and Greder:

But with only $70 million secured for the project, a Title IX investigation keeping some of the building site off limits and last week's scandalous resignation by athletics director Norwood Teague, it seems unlikely the school can meet its goal of breaking ground this fall.

"I think you're wrong," said Lou Nanne, former Minnesota North Stars executive and now the project's chief fundraiser. "All I know is we plan on doing it and I haven't heard anything to the contrary."

University guidelines generally call for 80 percent of funding to be secured before ground can break on a project. Although $190 million is the project's benchmark, the U has determined it can get nearly everything it wants for $150 million.

So to get started, Nanne said, "It could be $120 (million)."

"We're not lowering our expectations," he added, "this is just to get started. We know the most important part of the project, and that's the student learning and training center."
