Gophers picked 12th by Jon Rothstein

12th is totally unacceptable. Great coaches do not finish 12th ever !

Not predicting a B1G championship, but I'd be very surprised if they finished as low as 12th, even with all the new faces. Actually more pumped for this group than last year (loved the seniors, but they were not great fits for Pitino's system). What would satisfy GH'ers? Top half? Too much of a reach?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict we finish 7-11 in the conference and miss the bubble. We will do better than 12th.

Painter did two years ago

Dutcher finished right at the bottom back when there were ten teams and certainly Clem had a few bottom dwellers- yet both were great coaches here. This program is going to cycle up and down- it will always be hard to be a perennial contender here. Back in his day Dutcher said that his goal was to be a serious contender for the Big Ten title every three to four years.

The only guys on the roster who have proven they are capable of a good scoring night versus Big Ten competition are Mason, King and Morris. To think any of those three are not going to play significant minutes, if healthy, is pure folly. We didn't recruit a shooter or a scorer, so the points gotta come from somewhere. Murphy, Dorsey, and McBrayer can maybe score. If they are capable we will be competitive. If at least two of those three can't score it'll be a long season. Dorsey compares himself to Russell Westbrook...if he can play well enough for any of us to see the resemblance...then couple things...most on here won't like him because he's too selfish....and we'll be good.

Morris got his points by going 7-21 with one assist and four turnovers. (Yes, there were one or two outlier games, but those numbers were the basic profile.) He killed what little ball movement they had and appeared to be the most selfish gopher since Kris Humphries. If he averages more than high teens in minutes it means that the coaches have gotten him to radically change his game or that the young wings aren't showing enough promise to make growing pains worthwhile.

most people would not consider Painter,Clem or Dutcher great coaches. I would hope the Gophers are aiming higher than that.

Morris shot 45% from the floor with an efg% of 50% and a ts% of 54%. All good numbers for a perimeter player. He was not as nearly as inefficient as you make him out to be.

They're or were good coaches. Every bit as good as the Bennett's whom you seem to have a hard on for. Painter teams from 08-11 were every bit as good if not better than the past two UVA teams.

I would put us ahead of NW and definitely Nebraska.

Tony Bennett was national coach of the year at Wash. St. of all places and his UVA teams have won the last two ACC titles. Every AD would have him at or near the top of their home run hire. If anyone at Minnesota won the Big10 back to back they would build a statue for them. Additionally even better days ahead for UVA as his 2016 class will be a top 5 class. no one would hire Painter over Bennett. Minnesota should hope to aim for conference championships. UW did it and so can Minnesota.

Then go to a ****ing UVA board and chug his dong. We don't care. We DON'T CARE.

One time a team that took 9th place in the Big East won the national title.
The same coach once tied for 11th. (Jim Calhoun)

Rick Pitino once finished tied for 11th.

Pretty impressive that his norm was 7-21 with a 1:4 assists/TO ratio but yet he still managed to shoot 45% on 9 field goal attempts per game and have a 1:1 ratio. Please continue to make strong arguments for your case against Carlos Morris - it's making you look very smart.

Being an underdog and taken lightly sometimes works in your favor. I really don't care at all about rankings for this year anyway with all the new players we have.
