Go Gophers!!

While impressive, don't we hear of kickers hitting 65+ all the time in practice? Add pads, 11 250+ lb men, 60,000 screaming people, game time pressure, and the weird winds that happen in a stadium versus an open air practice field and all the sudden these kickers are missing 30 yard chip shots in game.

Given recent history, I would guess Saban will carefully consider any long FG attempts in the future - at least in a critical juncture of the game.

With what was at stake, the rivalry, etc., will not the Tide's epic fail vs Auburn go down as perhaps one of, if not the, greatest play(s) in college football history? The six of us 40- and 50-something guys watching that game together that November day, none of whom with any allegiances to or affinity for either school, spontaneously, unscripted, and en masse, got up out of their seats and were hollering - in equal parts delight and disbelief - at what was transpiring.

I'll never forget it - nor will Nick, methinks.

My son and I stumbled onto that game just before all hell broke loose. We had the same reaction. It was an amazing thing to witness on live TV. We still talk about it despite not having a dog in the fight.

Was at a bar having dinner with the wife. No one was really watching the game, definitely no alabama fans or auburn fans and everyone went nuts when that happened... even my wife and (unfortunately for me) she thinks football is stupid.

While true that being able to do this in practice doesn't mean he could do it in a game it is still really impressive to be able to kick a football that far with any kind of accuracy. I would say it is a pretty safe bet he will be a kickoff specialist and with that kind of leg I would not expect to see many runbacks against him.

This was not a field goal in any way. This was a kick off that split the uprights. A field goal needs 10 additional 0ffensive players. I takes a snap and hold. And you get to do this against at least 10 players attempting to block it, and one looking to return it. See Auburn v. Alabama.
