with age comes perspective: back in the mid-60's - the era of Rick Mount, Pete Maravich, Dan Issel, Lew Alcindor and Elvin Hayes, the name of the game was offense. The prevailing coaching theory was:
"If we score 85 points, you have to score 86 to beat us."
But, sometime in the 70's, there was a change in philosophy. Defense started being stressed more often, and now we've come to a point where the prevailing coaching theory is:
"If we hold the other team to 50 points, we only have to score 51 to win."
Personally, I like a fast-paced game with more offense, but to each his own.
