Interesting stat, a bit surprised.
 

Becky fans hangover from the 59-0 beat down by the Buckeyes and pending disaster with the opener against Bama. That, and the John Deere tractor pull is probably what Barry was eluding too.
 

Clearly it is time to engage that expansion to TCF Bank Stadium that everyone has been asking about all these years.

Serious question - when do we expand? Several years of straight sell outs with a wait list of what, 10-20k people? Hard to see that happening, but would be awesome.
 

As the Gophers re-establish a winning tradition the bandwagon fans will become dedicated fans (until we lose again).

Minnesota has drawn over 50,000 in a season three times in the last 27 years. Those three years included Iowa/NDSU games in 2006, Wisconsin/NDSU games in 2007 and the opening of TCF in 2009. The highest average was still only 52,000+ with two near sellouts. Personal opinion - should never be expanded.

Not unless you want Camp Randall West, Kinnick North, and Memorial Stadium East.

I don't know with the current demographics and the five pro sports in the area that we can have consistent sellouts with 10-20K fans on the wait list.

The only redeeming value of expanding is the added revenues to the local economy generated from out of towners. However, there are also quite a few Badger & Hawkeye Alumni in the Twin Cities.

I get tired of loud braggadocious Badger/Packer fans in particular. But, I thoroughly enjoyed the 59-0 de-tassling by OSU!

My question/thought about expansion. Does it have to be an all-at once situation? In other words, could they add another 15,000 seats, but build it in such a way that another 15,000 could be added on at a later date.

I think going from 50,000 to 80,000 in one stage is too much - but maybe by doing it in stages, the U could accommodate some increased demand without creating a ticket glut on the market. Maybe market it to the fans: If you sign up for X amount of season tickets, we'll expand the stadium.

What's funny is Wisconsin fans like to make fun of us for saying part of the reason it is hard to draw fans to the Gophers' games is because there is so many other sports options in the Twin Cities.

Nope, it can be done 10k at a time. It would be stupid to do it that way as you would incur some costs 2 or 3x as opposed to doing it all at once.
 

Silly to even discuss the expansion of the stadium, the program is a LONG way from that even being considered.
 


Expansion won't happen because whenever there becomes a waiting list, the U will just substantially raise ticket prices and eliminate the need for expansion.... :-(
 

Nice to see us have more fans come out than both Iowa and Wisconsin. Obviously it is not as big of an event as in say Nebraska but that is fine. Ultimately the game can be vanilla because teams don't want to give away too much or have any injuries. Glad to see more and more fans coming out just to get a glimpse of the team and cheer them on.
 

When the Gophers win a Big Ten championship (notice I didn't say "if"!), that will drive season ticket sales up, and then we can at least entertain expansion thoughts.
