BTN Announces Primetime Games: Gophers @ Iowa will be a primetime game on November 14

Latest kickoff time possible at TCF Bank Stadium?

Is there some lame city / neighborhood ordinance can affect how late a game is started at TCF Bank Stadium. I can't see why there would be. The Rolling Stones are holding a weeknight concert there which would end as late as any 8pm kickoff typically would. Trying to guess when the Gopher-TCU game may kickoff now that we know the BTN is not broadcasting it. Here are the other games listed for September 3, 2015:

Duke at Tulane TBA CBSSN
South Carolina vs. North Carolina (Charlotte) TBA ESPN Network / WatchESPN
Michigan at Utah TBA TBD
Oklahoma State at Central Michigan TBA TBD
TCU at Minnesota TBA TBD
UTSA at Arizona TBA TBD
Colorado at Hawaii 11:59 pm TBD

The South Carolina - North Carolina game being on the east coast should start earlier and would be ideally suited for ESPN's SEC Network but that may not happen since it is technically a neutral site game in Charlotte. Could we see a 5 pm CST kickoff for that game? Maybe place the USC-NC game on ESPN2. That way ESPN, the mothership channel, could pick up the Gopher-TCU with a kickoff in the 6-7 pm range. The kicker is the Michigan-Utah game and who owns the rights to that game. If ESPN has the rights it could piggyback the Michigan-Utah game on the Deuce immediately after USC-NC game since it is played in the mountain time zone. The main ESPN channels would be wall-to-wall college football on the first night of the season with intriguing match-ups and storylines to sell.

Rece Davis, Jesse Palmer, David Pollack and Samantha Ponder- come on down!

If rumors are true then that Minnesota vs Michigan game at night on Halloween will be awesome. I remember skipping trick and treating for that Michigan State game on Halloween back in 09. That was a great experience and a underrated game in TCF Bank stadium history. Also that Syracuse game at night was also very fun.

It'll be great for the fans here watching the game. My first thought, though, was "I'm glad this is an away game, and I'm not freezing my cajones off at TCF". I don't know what genius in Delaney's office decided that Iowa is more tropical than MN in mid-November. After the sun goes down. I remember when we played MSU on Halloween night a few years ago. That game was freakin' cold. I thought there was a rule of no night games after Halloween?

Still, it'll be fun for those who elect to go. If you've ever been on the Black Hearts/Gold Pants blog (which is a great read, btw), they usually post the police blotter after every Iowa home game. There's an amazing amount of drunken debauchery after 11am kickoffs. I shudder to think how boozed up the squawkeye fans will be for a 7pm start. I'd say it's even money somebody gets popped for beastiality.

I agree that this game was a blast, largely because we won. It was also one of the worst reffed games in BT history, which is really saying something. The only thing that saved us is the crappy reffing cut both ways and we got the last bad call. Quite possibly the biggest win of the Brewster era (short list).

As I just mentioned in another post, it was also one of the 3 coldest games I've been to at TCF. The other two being the tOSU game last year and the UW game 2 years ago. Someone posted the average highs/lows for that date, which is fine. But two things that makes a huge difference that time of year is whether the sun is shining and if it's windy. Can't predict the wind, but it's a pretty safe bet it won't be sunny at 7pm in Iowa City

That struck me as extremely funny. Must be because of my age.

I'm really hoping for a night game on halloween. The Michigan State game was my first at TCF.

I think they ended the no night games after Halloween rule last year.

Good thing the Gophers got 1, their getting another with TCU. that 2.

It'll be a mess. The University clamped down on tailigating in 2010 and there hasn't been a night game since. A night game seems to signal a shift policy which hopefully will result in fewer SS (ICPD) officers roaming the tailgating scene. I think you'll all enjoy yourselves but please, bring your own Dilly bars for the cold; we only bring Fireball into the stands.

Suggest Folks look into hotels soon. Very spendy already. Very few are "on campus" at Iowa. I just booked a room at the Hampton Inn as I considered 1.4 miles from Kinnick "walking distance" and it ran me $270+Tax for Sat. Night.

I paid somewhere above $180 to stay Saturday night in the large Sheraton Hotel on the PED Mall the week of the September 2012 game. That hotel is by far the best place to be in Iowa City (edit. apparently there is now a very expensive boutique hotel in DT IC now) in my experience. The PED mall is a very nice place to be before or after any game. I mainly encountered students and younger Iowa fans around the PED Mall and they were notably respectful on the street, and open to good discussion in the bars, before and after the game. I will always try to stay downtown for future visits and will pay more to do so. I like the IC Ped Mall better than State Street Madison.

The Iowa people on the PED mall seem much more tolerable than the Iowa fans tailgating near the stadium, and for sure any that attend games in Minneapolis. I am now a big fan of the 4:30 AM wake up call and Saturday AM drive to Iowa City with a hotel room for post game!

In past visits I have stayed on the Corralville "strip" by I80 at some dumpy Econolodge, and some other cleaner "motel". From my perspective both places were OK since they were a still within a long walk of campus, but not a very good deal relative to the dumpy surroundings, and the lack of anything to do nearby. The Econolodge was sort of fun because we had a large group, stayed both nights, and sort of enjoyed drinking on the balcony overlooking he porn shop next door as we talked to some of the other "residents". The place sort of reminded me of being in prison, although thankfully we did not have a Lawrence Phillips type cellmate, and we had the opportunity for conjugal visits if things went well on Dubuque St.

That hotel was my first choice. >$300/night right now. Went with the Hampton as it is also in walking distance and a little cheaper. I don't really consider the Coralville "strip" walking distance and have never much cared for it the past 3 times I have stayed there. Iowa pretty much sucks for a road trip.

Planned on making the trip this year...but being in Iowa City after dark does not appeal to me.

Went down 3 times during Mason's tenure and my memories of the campus during the day was that it was not easy to navigate.

Guess I'm just a wuss.

Ensures at least 4 seats for other GopherHolers to make the game!

Yes, I think the rate I paid at the Sheraton was a last moment deal, since someone must have cancelled at 10PM Friday, so I signed up and we left for IC five hours later.

I walked to Kinnick from Coralville a few times, but unless you like walking past empty lots, strip malls and fast food restaurants, with fat Iowa fans mixed in, the 30 minute walk can be tough.

I personally went to the worst breakfast buffet ever at a County Kitchen with a group of hung over Gopher fans in 2003. Two of the four fans threw up the breakfast on the walk to Kinnick, and myself and the other non vomiting fan later went to downtown Iowa City for more beers after the horrible 28-52 loss in 2003. The other two sat in the dump of a motel room and watched a Law and Order Marathon or Hog Farming documentary for 10 hours after the game.

Hotels, especially with the night game announcement, will be difficult to come by and I suggest anyone looking to go book now. Like oak_street mentioned, the Ped Mall in downtown Iowa City encompasses all that is Iowa City. It's a ten minute walk to the stadium and it brings food, drinks, and fun to your hotel doorstep. Sheraton is a great downtown hotel and the boutique hotel, Hotel Vetro, may be swankier than the Sheraton.

The Heartland Inn in Coralville is the only hotel I would consider walking distance from the stadium. If you you have the money and opportunity, book a room at the Coralville Marriot. It's right of the interstate and the area is up and coming with some decent places to eat and some great beer (a recently new place called 30 Hop and Backpocket Brewing).

And as oak_street also said, don't expect much out of Coralville outside of the Marriot area. You don't go to the suburbs (it's as close as it gets for Iowa City) for character.

That would be awesome! Oh and happy birthday Nate!

How confident are you about this? This would be great.

I'm not even plugged in and I'm confident about this.
It sure makes sense on paper. Our games are easily some of the most anticipated in the West.

The average temperature range in Iowa City on Nov. 14 is a high of 51 and a low of 32. Unless it's an abnormally cold day, it should be between 35 and 40 at 7 pm.

You do realize that 32 being the average low doesn't mean anything colder than that is "abnormal?"
In fact, 32 being the average low means about half of the lows are lower than 32.

You are confusing "average" with median. Big difference.

Everything I wrote applies to the mean as well as the median.
In fact, looking at the mean probably means it will be colder than that. Because there are probably more 60 degree days in mid November than 0 degree days.

You think something below 32 when 32 is the mean should be considered abnormal?
If you do you are an idiot.

Beat me to it.

Beat you to what? An obvious statement that doesn't at all take away from the message of the post?

Do you think a low of 27 should be considered abnormal when the mean low is 32?
If you do you are an idiot.

I tend to stay away from p*ssing matches here but if you think this statement is true, you are the idiot.

Wow....primetime on the mothership over Spurrier/SEC and Harbaugh's debut.

We've come along way from "Who does Minnesota think they are" firing Glen Mason....or make Jerry Kill an Asst AD and bring back Mase as coach.
