Dean Smith remembers players in will; gives each letterwinner $200 for "dinner out"

per ESPN:

Dean Smith got a chance to thank his players one last time.

The former North Carolina coach, who died last month at 83, directed his trust in his will to give $200 to every letter winner who played for him during his 36 seasons as head coach at the school.

"We never expected anything like this," said Jeb Barlow, who lettered at UNC from 1980-1982. "But it doesn't surprise me that this was done."

The trustee of Smith's trust, Tim Breedlove, told ESPN.com that the $200 checks were sent out on Monday to about 180 letter winners.

Go Gophers!!

I wonder what percentage of these will get cashed. I'd imagine most will end up framed.

Like this?

"You have to love Rickey Henderson.

In an interview with Mike and Mike on ESPN radio, he shoots down a couple of preposterous stories circulating about him, but also steps up and confirms some outrageous ones.

Like yes, he did once fall asleep with an ice pack on, for an ankle injury, and missed three games with frostbite.

But the best one is that Henderson did indeed once receive a million-dollar check from the Oakland A's and, rather than cash it, framed it and hung it on his wall.

"When you're a kid, you want to be a millionaire," said Henderson, who apparently wasn't clear on the concept that the money needs to be in the bank to achieve millionaire status.

When the check didn't clear, the A's phoned, asked him to cash it, and suggested he display a photocopy instead."

Best guess - when Michael Jordan receives his $200 check he will:
A. spend it on dinner
B. bet it on a golf game

C. Trade it in for more gold to add to his swimming vault.
