The former WCHA rival Bulldogs (20-15-3) are 3-1 against the Gophers this season. In the last three games, Minnesota has scored two goals combined.
“We’re thrilled to be back in the NCAA tournament and to be taking on a team we are really familiar with in UMD,” Gophers senior captain Kyle Rau said. “This is a really competitive regional, and we’re looking forward to hitting the ice this weekend.”
Lucia said it’s a different Gophers team than the one that lost 2-1 to the Bulldogs in the North Star College Cup on Jan. 24.
“They’re a really good team and (the previous matchups) were all close games,” Lucia said. “Ever since that time, we’ve been playing better. I think that was the low moment in the season.”
