University of Minnesota football coach Jerry Kill announced today the addition of Terry Szucs and Adam Weber to the Minnesota staff. Szucs will serve as the team's defensive quality control assistant, while Weber is the team's new offensive graduate assistant.

Szucs replaces Melvin Rice, who was hired as the cornerbacks coach at Southeast Missouri. Weber replaces Ryan Maiuri, who was in the role for two seasons.

Szucs, who graduated from Lock Haven University in 1975, brings nearly 40 years of experience to Minnesota. He most recently served as the defensive line coach at Pittsburg State University for one year. Prior to that he spent 18 years at his alma mater and was the assistant head coach from 2005-2009. Szucs was also the offensive coordinator (1996-99) and defensive coordinator (2009-2013) at Lock Haven and was the secondary coach, linebacker coach, quarterback coach and offensive line coach at one point as well.

Prior to Lock Haven, Szucs was the head coach at Dodge City Community College and also coached at Washburn University (offensive line coach), Wayne State College (offensive line coach), Westmar College (offensive line coach) and South Dakota State University (graduate assistant offensive line coach).

Szucs was a four-year letterman at Lock Haven and ended his career by being named to the 1975 All-PSAC First Team as an offensive guard.

Weber played for the Gophers from 2007-10 and is the school's all-time leading passer with 10,917 career yards. Weber owns Minnesota records for touchdowns in season (24 in 2007) and career (72) as well as attempts in a season (449 in 2007) and career (1,594) and completions in a season (258 in 2008) and career (909). Weber, who started a quarterback record 50 games at Minnesota, passed for 250 yards or more a school-record 14 times. He also had six 300-yard passing games and one 400-yard passing game.

Go Gophers!!

I know he has wanted something like this for some time.

I like want Kill is doing, bringing in ex-Gophers. It has worked out well for Sherels and now hope it works out well for Weber.

Congrats to both. Any help in pronouncing S-z-u-c-s?

Love that they are bringing Weber onto the staff. I don't care what anyone says because I think this will eventually pay dividends for our team with him on board.

Congrats to Adam for joining the staff!

So what are the differences between a quality control coach and a graduate assistant?

Assume Weber can't be an off campus recruiter in this role?

Can we finally agree that those who said it were right? AWeb will never start a game in the NFL.

There weren't many people claiming he would be an NFL starter. There were people claiming he wouldn't even get invited to an NFL training camp, let alone make make it to a practice squad.

He's one of our coaches now. So hopefully he's a better coach than player (which happens all the time). Hope it works out for him entering the field.
