All Things 2015 Gophers Softball Thread

Gophers win a pair today out in Fresno. First game goes 5 innings, 20-3 against South Dakota State. Stober started goes 4 and gets the win. Second game, 8-1 over Pacific with Groenewegen going 7 and striking out 8, allowed 3 hits.

Gophers beat Fresno State 3-1. Groenewegen comes out on top against the Bulldogs ace, Jill Compton.

Gophers notch a couple more wins today in Fresno. Nikki Anderson started, went 4.1 and gets the win in the first game. Kylie Stober came in and threw the last 2.2 and gets the save. Minnesota 5-2 over Montana. Together they recorded 9 strikeouts, no walks, no HBP.
Second game went an extra inning, 1-0 over Cal Poly. Sara G goes all 8, no walks, no HBP and 6 strikeouts, 2 hits. Beat another ace, Sierra Hyland, last years Big West Pitcher of the Year.

Just want to add something. Groenewegen only threw 87 pitches in the 8 inning game today. The other pitcher, obviously tough, threw 122 in 7.1 innings by comparison.

Sara Groenewegen is now at #10 in E.R.A. with .96 (REALLY misleading. The supposed leader of the nation with 0.00 has had 3 appearances and never started a game. Has thrown a total of 7 innings.)

Minnesota (24-4) heads into Champaign to take on the Illini (8-16) in a 3 game set. Illinois just got dumped 3-0 by North Dakota State on Tuesday. Menke, the Bison pitcher chalked up 12 strikeouts. Michigan wins their opener today against Ohio State by a score of 13-1. Sophomore Megan Betsa goes 7 innings, allowing 4 hits and striking out 14.

Gophers win again today (Saturday) 11-1 in 5 innings. SS Tyler Walker hit her 5th HR in the last 3 games. Groenewegen started and went 3 innings. Kylie Stober came in and threw the last 2. (I neglected to mention Nikki Anderson came in and finished off yesterday's game.) Sara G has thrown a total of 112 pitches in the 2 games.

Gophers (26-4) can set a school record winning streak today (noon at Illinois) with a W. Guessing Sara G will get the ball.
Michigan with another 13-1 win over the Buckeyes yesterday. Wagner was the starter in the 5 inning game.

Wow I didn't know Nebraska was only 15-12. I thought they would be really good this year. Two horse race for the Big Ten Title With Minnesota & Michigan?

Nebraska has their mid week Big Ten doubleheader at Iowa on Tuesday (tomorrow). On Wednesday they visit Ames for a match up with Iowa State. Wonder if the mid week games will hinder or help as far as next weekend? Thinking it gives them an advantage on keeping sharp.

Nebraska, who Minnesota plays this weekend, had their doubleheader pushed back one day. Now scheduled for today, Wednesday, at Iowa City.

Nebraska shellacked Iowa 12-2 and 16-7 today. They now sit at 5-0 in conference play.

Emily Lockman leads the Nebraska club in starts with 15. Her ERA is 5.52 and she has struck out 51 in 85 innings. Cassie McClure is the second on the squad with 9 starts and a 4.29 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 60.1 innings.

Lockman vs Groennewegen in the opening game today that just got under way. Cloudy skies and 40 degrees.

Gophers take the opener 8-7. Up 5-1 at one time, they managed to hang on. Macken, Granger and Palkovich homered, providing 3 of the 6 Gopher hits. Groenewegen went 5 innings, 5 hits, 4 runs, 4 strikeouts and 4 walks. Anderson threw the last 2, 4 hits, 3 runs. 14 game win streak.

28-4
Dang thats impressive. I wonder if we sweep do we get a top ten ranking.

Kylie Stober vs Kaylan Jablonski in the second game against the Huskers. (Erika Rozell behind the plate)

Gophers use all three pitchers in a 8-3 win over Nebraska. Stober goes 4, started the 5th, but a hit batter and a walk brought in Anderson. She got a ground out and then an inning ending double play on another grounder. Nikki went into the 7th, couple hitters reached and Groenewegen came in to finish it off. Walker with a home run. Gophers win their 15th straight and improve to 29-4. Guessing Sara G gets the ball tomorrow for the finale.

Sara Groenewegen vs Emily Lockman in the third game. (Don't think the Huskers have seen the best of Sara in this series yet.)

Well, shoot. Gophers fall to Nebraska 5-3. 2 unearned runs in the 1st inning gave Nebraska the lead and they didn't relinquish it. Groenewegen with 4 innings, 7 hits, 4 runs, 2 earned, 1 BB, 1 HPB, 71 pitches. Gophers fall to 29-5, 5-1.

Since Big Ten play has started here's the pitch count for Groenewegen.

Updated through all games of March 29.

Michigan has been rotating Betsa and Wagner. Betsa threw the last game against Iowa. Wagner doesn't strike out nearly as many hitters. She has 71 in 91 innings, while Betsa has 143 in 97 innings. Romero is hitting .506 with 13 home runs. Hardly ever strikes out and walks a lot. Leads the team in all the categories mentioned and in RBI's. Hopefully Sara G. is in top form.

Betsa gets the call for the Wolverines.

Gophers up 4-1 to start the 4th. (Gonna opine here;hope she lets Sara go deep into this one.)
5-1. Bottom of the 5th.
9-1 Gophers, bottom of 6th. Game over, run rule. Betsa tops out at 142 pitches. Groenewegen at 90. Sara with 10 strike outs, 4 hits, 1 walk, 1HBP. Walker and Macken homer.
Most runs scored against Michigan in a game this season.

Can't believe we scored 9 on Michigan. This is truly a magical season. GO GOPHERS!

Highlights from the Illinois series.
