DENTON, Texas — Chip Armelin scored a career-high 30, including a key 3-pointer in overtime, to lift Southern Miss over North Texas 75-71 on Saturday.

Jordan Williams made 1 of 2 from the line to put North Texas up one with 1:50 left in overtime, but Southern Miss (6-12, 1-6 Conference USA) scored the next six points — including Armelin's trey — for the win.

Armelin was 10 of 17 from the floor, including 4 of 9 beyond the arc. Norville Carey added 18 points and 12 boards.

Chip's season average: 14 points per game, 3.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists. Shoots 45 FG% and 35% on 3pt shots. Pretty good senior year in a decent conference.

Good for Chip.

Too bad he would have graduated already if he stuck with us.

He was fun to watch and at times frustrating to watch. Liked him though. Glad he is doing well.

Chip would have been nice to have instead of Malik last year. More versatile offensively, could have taken more minutes up than Malik did.

Good for Chip! He would have been a much better player in Pitino's system than in Tubby's imo. Chip for all his warts was an aggressive player who had balls like coconuts. Sometimes he bad more balls than brains, but one thing you couldn't question was his toughness. I know he'd have graduated if he'd stayed here, but I have to say it anyway: He'd be a huge addition to this years team if he was eligible. This team could really use his edge.

Chip 'No! Chip don't do it!' Armelin was my favorite player

Dude had no conscience. That said he couldn't dribble at all. One of the worst ball handling guards I'd seen in the B1G. If he improved his handle I'm not shocked he's playing well as he had a decent stroke and was a really good athlete.
