per Greder:

Heading into the Texas Bowl last December, the Gophers' offense was playing two quarterbacks and slogging through a 13-quarter drought without a touchdown.

What a difference a year makes.

This season, the Gophers (8-4) have handed the reins to quarterback Mitch Leidner and have scored 11 offensive touchdowns in the 13 quarters leading up to their Citrus Bowl matchup with Missouri (10-3) on New Year's Day.

"We feel comfortable that the program is going the right way offensively because last year was a struggle," Leidner said. "To know that we don't have a problem putting points on the board at times makes it a little bit better."

Wow. The offense was certainly frustrating at times this year, but that stat is astonishing. I'd forgotten how bad things were at the end of last year. Granted, we'd come off facing MSU and (IMO) a much better Wisconsin D, but this year's final 13 quarters were no joke either with Wisc, OSU, and Neb.

Even better things coming next year?

We averaged 18.75 points in conference last year and over 31 points in conference this year. Remarkable improvement. Note that this is counting defensive and special teams scores as well.

. Lots to do with the big ten being way down this year . Let's be honest tHe Michigan team was a mess and we caught them in a down year -

Umm, except for the fact that Michigan is #10 in the country in total defense this year. They were 41st in total D last year.

You could also add wisconsin at #4, to michigan at #10, and ohio state at #15, also iowa at #19 for teams we played in conference this year and put up 24, 30, 31, and 51 points respectively. Holy **** we put up 51 points on the 19th best defense in the nation this year! The B1G may have been down this year as some are saying but hopefully we and others surprise in the bowl games and gain some respect back. We sure did a respectable job against 4 of the top 20 defenses in the nation. Definitely a huge improvement over last year. Also that wisconsin at #4 is after the tOSU game...

All 10 big ten teams are under dogs in the bowl games. The big ten was brutal vs non conference opponents this year !
