What are everyone's predictions of Gophers that make 1st and 2nd All Big 10 offense and defense?

What will have to happen/not happen for Jerry to get Big 10 Coach Of The Year award?

Any Gophers get a named award? For reminders, here are those awards:

  • Offensive Player of the Year
  • Defensive Player of the Year
  • Freshman of the Year
  • Dungy-Thompson Humanitarian Award
  • Ford-Kinnick Leadership Award
  • Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year
  • Richter-Howard Receiver of the Year
  • Ameche-Dayne Running Back of the Year
  • Kwalick-Clark Tight End of the Year
  • Rimington-Pace Offensive Lineman of the Year
  • Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year
  • Fitzgerald Linebacker of the Year
  • Tatum-Woodson Defensive Back of the Year
  • Bakken-Andersen Kicker of the Year
  • Eddleman-Fields Punter of the Year

If the Gophers make the championship game, it will be between Kill and Urban for the COY award. It likely is between those two now, but Urban has the nod at this time. There will be serious pressure to give it to an Ohio State coach since it hasn't gone to OSU since the late 70's.

Williams will win the Kwalick-Clark, and Mortell will win the Eddleman-Fields, and both will be all-conference.

Maxx, D. Wilson, BBC, and Mortell have a shot (Maxx is a lock)

Offense:

Maxx - 1st team TE
Cobb - likely 2nd team if they include 2 RBs on both teams
Epping - thinking 1st team but at least 2nd
Olson/Campion - these guys may be a thought at 2nd but will at least be honorable mention

Defense
BBC/Murray - I think both end up 1st or second team, toss up as to which
Wilson - could be 1st team, probably 2nd team
Botti - would love to see him on 2nd team but I'm guessing he's Honorable Mention
Thompson - honorable mention
Mortell - 1st team

Offensive Player of the Year - Melvin Gordon
Defensive Player of the Year - Randy Gregory
Freshman of the Year - Jalin Marshall (?)
Dungy-Thompson Humanitarian Award - No idea
Ford-Kinnick Leadership Award - No idea
Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year - JT Barret
Richter-Howard Receiver of the Year - Lippett
Ameche-Dayne Running Back of the Year - Melvin Gordon
Kwalick-Clark Tight End of the Year - Maxx Williams
Rimington-Pace Offensive Lineman of the Year - Scherff
Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year - Joey Bosa or Randy Gregory
Fitzgerald Linebacker of the Year - Mike Hull
Tatum-Woodson Defensive Back of the Year - My guess is someone from MSU
Bakken-Andersen Kicker of the Year - No idea
Eddleman-Fields Punter of the Year - Shortell

Agree. When we win in Madison, it will be next to impossible not to give Kill the COY award. The story is just too good, too compelling, and has gained national attention. I live in a medium-sized town in Texas and I cannot count how many people have randomly mentioned or texted me about the Gophers and Jerry. This story has seized the imagination of a whole bunch of folks and that bodes well for Jerry nailing the COY.

Maxx is a slam dunk. Mortell wins Eddleman-Fields.

I also think we put BBC, Wilson, Cobb on 1st/2nd teams. I'd think that Epping & Campion both have a shot.

Interesting choice of verbs.

Well, Joey Bosa is white, so I think Gregory is a lock.

Mike Hull over Damien Wilson for Linebacker of the Year?

Interesting choice of verbs.

Oops. Completely unintentional!

And, just to make the point even stronger, I just sat down with one of our university sports announcers, a Tennessee fan and SEC guy. He tells me that he's become a Gophers/Jerry Kill fan!!!

Let's just say that the narrative is compelling and it has gripped the national sports imagination as one of the best "good guy/feel good/do it the right way" stories in recent memory.

Here are their respective stats. Pretty close, but Hull has a slight overall edge.
