One of the things I feel have been under the radar is the potentional NFL talent on this roster. By a conservative guess I think DW5 RS18 DC27 EM31 TC55 MW88 SR96. It will be interesting to see if these players can earn a draft spot in the NFL, and is a far better feeling as a fan knowing we are getting talent that can make it to the next level.

Just a thought...

Win and they will come - higher rated recruits with aspirations for playing on Sundays.

I can see some on the O-Line getting picked up by somebody...

I agree that there is potential in the O-Line, however I cannot pretend to know what high end upside we may have. Given the experience our O-Line has and the fact it will likely be that way under Kill, I would have to agree though I can't offer a substantial take on any of them.

You mean PM37 and GE87?

I actually had to look at a roster to figure out who RS18 was....little early to project him for the NFL considering the number of really good kickers we have had here like Nystrom for example who couldn't crack the NFL.

Yeah, I think this will be the start of a pipeline for our OL to the league. Epping and Campion will surely get some looks. Pirsig looks a little overmatched right now, but he's got time to figure it out. Lauer looks like a lock.

I might add Mortell and Elmore to that list.

You have to be kidding about Mortell. He strikes about 20% of his punts well. His numbers are greatly padded by good bounces because the kick is so poor the other team can't catch it. Kid can boom them in warm ups though. must be a mental thing but he is not NFL material.

Always hard to tell who has NFL staying power but my best guess -
Definite draftees:
Maxx
Murray
Cobb
Wilson

Possible draftees :
Cochran (before the year I thought he was a definite draftee but he hasn't shown much this year)
Epping
BBC
Lauer
Pirsig

Will get a UFA shot:
Campbell
Thompson
Campion
Johnson
Botti
Olson
Fruechte
Holland Jr (yep I'm throwing it out there now that he has NFL potential)

- Good list overall. Agree on everyone until the UFA's. I think Campbell may have a chance to get drafted yet & while it doesn't cost much to look at these guys, some of them clearly are not NFL talent imo.

- I think Campbell might get drafted & will stick in the league. The NFL is a league full of specialists & Campbell is a LB who can cover just about any TE or RB stride for stride. That's a specialized skill set teams are looking for.

- I don't see Ced Thompson, Antonio Johnson or Isaac Fruechte as NFL talents.

- I would probably add Jalen Myrick to your possible draftees list. The kid has NFL speed already & is only a true Sophomore. He should get two solid years as a starter beginning next year.

- I don't know about his speed, but Damarius Travis certainly looks & hits, like an NFL player.

- Although we haven't seen much of him yet, the staff has mentioned on more than one occasion Duke McGhee as having NFL potential.

I agree with you for the most part. . .

Campbell will have a really good shot to play in the NFL and will probably get drafted. Like you said, he has a definite skill that translates. He also has the athletic profile to play in the NFL.

Ced Thompson, I think he'll play in the NFL. When you start looking at secondary depth in the NFL, you need to find guys who can run and tackle (special teams). Thompson will definitely flash on special teams and he might be a good enough safety to beat out a guy who doesn't project as well on special teams. This actually hurts pure cover guys like BBC (and Michael Carter before him). If you're not good enough to be a top 3 corner, you have to be able to cover or returns kicks. I don't know if BBC fits that mold.

Travis. . .he'll get a look. I am not sure he covers well enough.

Myrick and McGhee . . . I agree with you 100%, they seem to have some skills but it's hard to tell right now.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Lynn. He's only a sophomore and has grown by leaps and bounds this year. I agree with the rest of pretty much what everyone else is saying, except that Fruechte has almost no chance of making the NFL.

I think Campbell will definitely be in a camp but I think he'll need to be more consistent over the next 1.5 yrs to get drafted.

I think Ced and AJ will both have 3 years of good enough film and will put up good enough athletic numbers to get a shot. They both remind me a bit of Vereen last year. Vereen really didn't make many 'plays' at all last year but he covered well, tackled well and then put up excellent combine numbers. I think those guys are similar even though Johnson flashes more than both Vereen and Thompson and he's also a little bigger. Thompson is a bit small for an NFL safety but I think he'll definitely get a shot in someone's camp. One thing to remember is that both of these guys are proven cover guys as safeties and that's worth a lot.

Fruechte is a classic size+speed guy that I think will justify time in camp. Don't think he's an NFL receiver but he's 6'2" and has good wheels

- I meant to add Travis, just forgot. Question with him will be answered next year: Is he fast and fluid enough to cover a deep half or third consistently. He's played really well covering TEs and in the flats and hook/curl zones, now we need to see if he does as well running down the seams.

- Myricks, haven't seen seen enough of him to have an opinion. Right now I don't see him as an NFL player but he's got 2 years to grow and learn.

You must only watch 20% of his kicks. I have no idea if PM37 plays in the NFL, but I do know your above post is flat out wrong.

He's 15th in the country in average yards per punt.

Last year he was 27th.

He can certainly be a top 10 punter in the NCAA his senior year.

I don't care if he strikes them with his backside. I'll take those numbers.

Long time lurker, first time poster. FWIW I'm charting the Gophers' senior prospects this year as a regional guy for a scouting service.

Damien Wilson will get a 3rd or 4th round grade. He plays a solid all around game and has good instincts. His size and long arms will attract interest.

Eric Murray will get a 3rd or 4th round grade. He's been up and down this year but at his best he can take away a decent #1 or #2 receiver for long stretches. Good height and physicality.

Other than those two, no draftable guys. Epping and Wells should be snapped up quick in free agency and stay with a squad at least through training camp. Olson, Thompson, and Botticelli will probably be low end free agents that stick around for a few weeks

Yeah. . .3rd/4th makes sense for Wilson. The NFL has changed so much that a traditional MLB like Wilson isn't as coveted as before. I wouldn't be entirely shocked if he isn't someone that jumps up the boards a bit around the draft. I think he'll have the measurable and his tape will stand out (probably even more than the recognition that he's received).

Murray is only a junior. It'll be interesting to see where he ends up when the dust settles on his career. We sure ask him to do a lot.

Cobb will be drafted.

Cobb, Wilson this year are no brainers. The rest of the seniors have a chance to get noticed as our competition heats up and the growing importance of the games receive heavy attention. Winning teams have a way of getting guys drafted, even those guys that didn't initially project simply because the hype train starts to build and more scouts are watching, reading, and listening.

I doubt any of the underclassmen leave early as they won't be projected high enough.

1/5 of his kicks (20%) are struck well. The rest 4/5 (80%) are low line drive sh!tty kicks that just happen to bounce/roll 20 yards. Maybe i'm exaggerating a little but max 40%/60%. He has a long way to go before anybody in the NFL would even consider him and even then they would watch video from this season and mark him off their list.
