Gopher great Jed Dommeyer passes away

A good man. Was fortunate enough to have him as a teacher when I was growing up. Would hope Gophersports.com in short order will have something about Mr. Dommeyer's passing.

Never met the man, but have heard good things about him. To show you how times have changed, Dommeyer graduated from the U in 1957, and had at least one offer to play pro basketball. He turned that down to become a HS teacher and Coach in Windom, MN. After 6 years in Windom, he went to Northfield, where he spent most of his career - except for a stint where he was the head Girls BB coach at Carleton and St. Olaf.

I'm trying to picture the Gopher BB team captain graduating and turning down the pros for a HS coaching job. Don't think that's going to happen today.

Just listening to stories about him as we speak, from my father in law, who coached against him in high school athletics.
