per Channel 9:

The National Coalition on Racism in Sports and Media is threatening to sue the University of Minnesota if they use the Washington Redskins name when the team travels to TCF Bank Stadium to play the Vikings on Nov. 2.

According to the facility use agreement, the Vikings have full jurisdiction over TCF Bank Stadium on NFL game days, but NCRSM director Clyde Bellecourt says they want the U of M to enforce its contract to ban the Redskins name from the stadium and get the Vikings to ban Redskins jerseys and face paint from the game.

Yes, the way to end racism is to be a total d-bag and threaten baseless lawsuits against non-racist entities who have almost zero control over situations upon which one is threatening the lawsuit.

So if I go into Menards and start screaming racial slurs in the Lighting department, Menards can get sued?

Agree. If they want to sue somebody, sue the frickin' Redskins for god's sake! The U isn't using anything and already has strict policies against hostile and abusive nicknames. Apparently, the folks over at the Anti-racism coalition haven't been paying attention to who is using what when it comes to the Redskins and their nickname. Pure idiocy on this group's part.

Gee, contract enforcement? This is market regulated, capitalistic country that takes contract law seriously. If there is a clause, there is a clause. If the U has reason to act to deny the Redskins name then this is not a frivolous lawsuit. Saddle up, boys, the natives are restless.

I thought clyde what's his name was still at custers last stand. I am very tired of hearing how the native americans are so mistreated. Tax the casinos and make them pay real estate taxes and income taxes and maybe I will feel different.

They have a Constitutional right to not be taxed as they are sovereign nations. Read the document. Then wipe up the floor when you're done. Is the American public that ignorant about the native community! Or, has nobody read the document? No wonder this country is going down the crapper! It all started when the popcorn lifestyle became more rigorous a lifestyle than knowing the document that governs all law in the land. Lazy, stupid, American idol, cerebellum deprived public.

I'm more worried about what PETA is going to do after we lance those skunks and hog-eyes.

American Indians have all kinds of genuine long term problems. The name of a sports team is not one of them. Attacking the U of M is unfair, anyway - they don't name the team. What fanatics we have these days.

I think this is the same organization that threatened to sue Warroad HS over the use of their Warrior's mascot. They finally dropped the lawsuit and admitted they didn't know what the hell they were doing after finding out from an Ojibwe alum and former Olympian, that the school has a significant Native population that supports the name as well as the history of the town (named after the War Road used during conflicts between Native tribes).

Just tell Snyder he can't change the Redskins name. The problem will soon be solved.

That "alum" would be the great Henry Boucha. In Henry's words, "Get off my side".

When the U of M first expressed its discomfort with the Redskins name, I wondered if anyone at the school had noticed that "Apache" by The Sugar Hill Gang was part of the late game musical montage utilized to pump the fans, especially the student section. The song, often referred to as "Jump On It", pretty much hits all the negative and patronizing stereotypes of Native Americans you can think of, although the game production staff was always quick to drop out of the song when the chorus ended and things got really bad. About a week before the opener, someone pointed all this out in a letter to the Strib. Surprise! The song was 86ed from the montage on Thursday and is unlikely to ever return. I'm guessing there were some red faces within the U of M's administration and athletic department when this came to light because I'm betting no one had bothered to really listen to the song until a few days ago.

But we can play any song that glorifies rape and uses the words "motherf@cker," "bitch," or "whore" as long as the title doesn't mention race.

I would say "I see what you did there", if um, that last sentence didn't stick out like a thing that sticks out and doesn't match, like other stuff.

I got my 40 acres and a mule, so thanks.

I like a contrast and tint in my comments once in a while. Makes it more... colorful. Not being racist. Just using a terrible, awful metaphor.

Oh noes!!!

"Threatening to sue", scary. Anyone out there never been threatened with this?........Anyone?........Buuuuehler?......Ferris Buehler? On the other hand though I can understand why Indians are pissed about their old way of life being destroyed by Whitey. Life really was freakin' fantastic for the Plains Indians, as long as you were male.

whoa.... easy. I used to work in the lighting dept at 'nards.

That being said, the threat to sue the U is absolutely absurd. I truly hope they do and the U counter sues them because they would win. Take those clowns for every last penny.

But this begs the question, when will they sue the University of Notre Dame for the 'racial use of fighting Irish'?

The Indian Nations of Minnesota built us a nice and expensive mall for TCF. The walk up to the main gates are a thing of beauty. The expectation I have is they may open up their checkbook again for the Athletes Village if they get some respect over the Redskins issue. Frankly, if I was the U, I would pay attention to a major donor group. They have "skin" in the game, and we have an interest in the outcome. I don't know about you folks, but I always go back to the well that brought me some sweet tasting water. When the Nations gave us the mall around TCF, that was a very large donation and with it came some stipulations and contract terms about conduct at the U, which if nothing else is implied.

Life isn't always about being emotionally and intellectually stupid. Sometimes it is about living up to the standards of your friends. The Indian Nations of Minnesota have been the U's friend and many on this board have forgotten how to treat their friends.

I see our resident "the white man must hate himself for all things of the past" poster is back to make sure we all think long and hard about this b.s. publicity stunt by that bum Clyde Bellecourt and his group of minions.

I'm going to find a chairback seat for this one.

This thread has already happened, and was moved to off- topic. I suggest this one go there as well.
It isn't exploring new ground, and the same people still hold the same opinions.

I am now going to return to reading this gripping novel Atlas Shrugged.

Could not agree more. Had to get my quick shot in on this topic though. So tired of this Indian activist group, and in particular the Clyde Bellecourt's of the world. Sorry just how I feel on the topic and towards him. (shrugs shoulders).

I am done. Cheers!
