The chant itself has taken off in recent years, so much so that the players themselves expect — and embrace — it.

I love it,” Minnesota quarterback Mitch Leidner said, “because we hate Iowa. That’s a huge rivalry. That goes back to a long time ago, getting Floyd of Rosedale.”

“What I love about it is they do it all year,” Gophers safety Cedric Thompson said. “It’s not just when Iowa comes. It’s the first game, halftime, ‘Who hates Iowa?’ So it’s good they’re thinking about Iowa in advance when they come. I love it.”

Cobb didn't even know where Iowa was as a freshman? I'm sure Jeff Jones knows where Iowa is.
I personally think hate is a strong word and there are only a few people in this world that I hate. That being said, every time I hear this chant or participate, I get a big smile on my face. It is like the modern day "Ski-U-Mah". If you see a gopher fan in public and yell "Who hates Iowa" you will probably get a reply from said gopher fan of "We hate Iowa". It's all in good fun and as long as it doesn't get so serious that someone does something stupid and actually hurts someone then carry on.

I get that news is probably slow these days in Cedar Rapids....but how many times are they going to write stories about the "Who Hates Iowa?" chant?
 







Beat me to it. Now it says "WHO HATES IOWA? IOWA!" Which seems perfect, really.
 



Personally, I don't like the chant. Of course we hate Iowa, they don't like us either. Overused, not creative, and just boring. For me, it's the equivalent of the wave.

Just my opinion, but I don't really care if people do it.

I like the wave and love the who hates iowa chant. To each their own.
 

The best part I doing it when we are playing other teams.

The wave is something that is done everywhere. This chant is something that is unique to us.
 

A few years ago the Gopher fans in Happy Valley did the chant on the road and it was awesome too see the Lion fans look confused and then embrace it. Some of them even started in.

Ooohhhh...let's get it started in Lincoln this year. I think they will embrace it, even if a bit out of character for them.

This is the best kind of cheer, IMO. Started organically among the fans (as opposed to the Ski-U-Mah flags), easily recognizable, not too vulgar (like F--- Bo Ryan), and unique to our team/fans. Love it.
 

Anybody who has driven through Iowa - day or night, north/south or east/west - knows how easy it is to hate Iowa.
