GopherSports: Gophers Ready For #B1GMediaDay

The University of Minnesota football team begins fall practice on Aug. 1 and hosts Eastern Illinois at home on Aug. 28 to open the season. Before any of that can happen though, the media rounds must be made.

A trio of Gophers - safety Cedric Thompson, running back David Cobb and quarterback Mitch Leidner - will join coach Jerry Kill in Chicago for the Big Ten's annual media days on Monday and Tuesday. The two-day whirlwind media tour takes place at the historic Hilton Chicago and draws media from all over the country.

Minnesota's quartet will visit with television outlets BTN, CBS, ESPN and FOX and will also face numerous questions from print and online media and a large radio row contingent. The two-day event, which also includes photo shoots and an alumni autograph session (Laurence Maroney will represent the Gophers), concludes with the 43rd Annual Kickoff Luncheon on Tuesday afternoon.

From TDG - B1G Media Days: BTN Is Spreading Hurtful Lies About Children's Games

By GoAUpher

ATTENTION: the following post is very, VERY critical to everyone's past and quite possibly to our futures as well.

Before you read any further, are you sitting down? No? Let me give you a second or two.

How about now? I'm not kidding you guys, for reals.

Ok good, because this is really important and I don't want you to fall and hurt yourself while you respond.

If you are tired of reading the same old, same old Jeff Jones comments click on the link below to see the rest of the article. Be sure to check out the comments at the bottom of the article. The one thing that will become clear to you is that the conversations at TDG are certainly different than they are on the Jeff Jones’ string.

OK Killjoy. I enjoyed joining forces with you against Wren and so I have been holding back on this post - but your repeated efforts to pimp TDG on this site is getting old. We get it - it is "different", folks don't "whine" as much, and you like the conversations there better. Good for you. We now know - OK? I like a lot of things I don't feel the need to shamelessly plug on here over and over.

I'm angry that I took the bait and read that.

A hilarious read from TDG. Thanks for sharing the link.

+100!

I just hope killjoy links all if the articles that Monter and others write on there too.

I am just taking my cue from wren who states on each and every one of his posts

wren has to give
The KILL STAFF SYSTEM
his total support...
And when needed
an honest contrast or two
just to keep this board an honest board...
Now what can be more inspiring than that? I sure wren appreciates me taking his words to heart. If he didn't, he would be a hypocrite and we all know that isn't the case. Personally, I find TDG the perfect contrast to wren but my primary purpose is to share some interesting perspectives. I am sure there are some people who don’t care for the articles but I know there are others who do appreciate them. I will try to not to proselytize as much in the future, but sometimes it is hard not, given the interactions that take place here.

+1!! Thank you Spoonfin!

I feel bad for Killjoy, the poor guy is forced to click the Jeff Jones thread and isn't able to put Wren on his ignore list.

There will be a lot of updates on Media Day - let's keep this thread focused on that. Any additional non-media day posts will be deleted if they veer way off-topic. Thanks.

So do we get any "major" announcements from Delany in regards to the conference this week? Thoughts?

MN Daily: Media days: 10 big questions

8. Will Berkley Edwards single-handedly transform the Gophers' offense?

At 5-feet, 9-inches, Berkley Edwards is small for a Big Ten running back. But the impact he could have on Minnesota's fortunes this season is pretty damn big. If Leidner and his young receivers can't connect and spread the field, Edwards might do it for them. The redshirt freshman accounted for the only touchdown in Minnesota's April spring game, breaking outside for 33 yards. He impressed in spring practice, too, and could provide a home-run threat the Gophers sorely lacked last season. Minnesota ranked second to last in the Big Ten in scoring offense last season, besting only Purdue — which won a single game all year. If the Gophers are going to take the next step, their offense needs to become more dynamic and Edwards could be the answer.

9. Is this the year Minnesota finally beats Wisconsin?

After being dominated by the Badgers in Jerry Kill's first two seasons at Minnesota, the Gophers actually put up a fight last year. Minnesota lost 20-7 but its offense couldn't deliver, failing to register a single point. Minnesota's defense will likely be just about as good as it was last season and the Gophers' offense could take a step forward (see Edwards, Berkley). Wisconsin, meanwhile, could take a step back after losing stud linebacker Chris Borland, reliable receiver Jared Abbrederis and veteran running back James White. Make no mistake, Wisconsin still brings back a talented side and might have the nation's top running back in Melvin Gordon. Playing the Gophers at Camp Randall should be enough for the Badgers to eke out a win, but this is the closest the two sides have been in years.

STrib: Big Ten Media Days: Leidner's the only sophomore in the house

Each Big Ten team brought three players to Big Ten Media Days, so there are 42 players here at the Hilton Chicago, and Gophers quarterback Mitch Leidner is the only sophomore.

But the Gophers have made no secret that they are looking to Leidner now as a team leader.

“I’m really honored to be going,” Leidner said last week. “I’m really happy I get to represent Minnesota because I’m from here and I love this school more than anything.
