To-do list

The Gophers ran the ball 69 percent of the time last year, sometimes to satisfying results, like when they busted Nebraska for 271 yards on the ground. But Minnesota also had three games when it scored seven points or fewer. According to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Minnesota coaches are interested in getting closer to a 60/40 run/pass ratio. That's interesting, because the Gophers were last in the league last year in passing offense. On defense, Minnesota will have to come as close as it can to filling the major hole left by the departure of NFL first-round pick Ra'Shede Hageman, a defensive tackle. Also, an underrated loss from this team is Brock Vereen, who was an All-Big Ten safety and team leader.

What's new?

Minnesota has a nice package of running backs, including bruiser David Cobb, who dented Nebraska for 138 yards last year. But keep an eye out for redshirt freshman Berkley Edwards. He's the brother of former NFL receiver Braylon Edwards. He's a burner who busted a 33-yard touchdown in the spring game and was a state champion sprinter in high school.

Go Gophers!!

I'm getting more and more excited to see how the offense has progressed. If Leidner is taking steps forward this team could really surprise some people. I'm even more excited about some of the weapons that we could possibly see this year. Holland, Gentry, and others have me thinking about a serviceable passing game to go along with our nearly elite ability to run the ball down people's collective throats!

Also, if Edwards turns out to be as good as some think it's going to be a lot of fun!

in 2013, Stanford who lost in the Rose Bowl after winning the Pac 12 with an 11-2 mark ran the ball at 65.2%. And if the Lincoln Journal would go back to some of the husker teams that ran the ball 55 times a game that percentage would make either Stanford or the Gophers appear pass happy.
Going back to the 1984 Huskers for the season they had 695 rushing attempts to 160 passing attempts. They ran the ball 81% of the time. Come on Journal Star.
