All Things Gopher Baseball

Never getting to Omaha if the elite local players keep going to the SEC or ACC.

I don’t understand the need for these kids to go south. This has been a successful program and this year proves we can win big here. Glen Perkins and a host of others prove you can make it to MLB playing for the Gophers.

No he committed in March and is the newest of our 4 2019 commits. The 2019s will be high school seniors this fall, 2018s are the guys who will be on campus this fall.

Thanks for following hat clarification. Who are the other 3?

Summer tournaments are in full swing. Incoming catcher Chase Stanke and infielder Andrew Wilhite play with Top Tier Hoffman and won the perfect game 18U BCS National Championship in Florida today. Stanke had a good case for MVP going 9-21 with 2 doubles, 13 RBI, and 4 stolen bases at the tournament. Here is a couple articles on them

Update on some current players
<script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Max Meyer made his debut for the USA CNT last night. He struck out the first 2 batters and then a blooper broke up the teams no hitter. A couple of walks followed before a soft grounder that was called a hit scored 2 runs. At the very least the 3rd baseman should've been able to keep it in the infield he did not move well at all. Meyer finished things up with another strikeout to preserve the 3-2 win.

Perfect 9th inning for Max tonight as Japan beat USA 1-0 in the series opener.

Max Meyer picks up the rare 1 out save striking out the only man he faced on 3 pitches in the United States 1-0 win over Japan in game 2.

Gopher to Beaver for the last out. I hope they keep Max as a closer next year.

Max gets the extended save tonight to give the USA a 2-1 lead in their series against Japan. Max came in with a 2-1 lead and a runner on 1st with 1 out in the 8th. He threw strike 1 and Rutschman threw out the Japan runner trying to steal 2nd and Max induced a weak grounder to 2nd to end the inning. After the U.S. added a run in the bottom of the 8th Max got a weak grounder to 1st for out number 1 and finished things off with 2 swinging strikeouts.

Max closes things out but it got a little interesting finishing 7-6. A quick strikeout was followed by a single and wild pitch but a groundout to 1st meant 2 outs with a runner at 3rd. A walk and a single to 2nd along with a couple throwing errors made the score 7-6 with the tying run on 3rd. After another walk Max induced a popup to the shortstop to end the game.

Another save for Max Meyer in a spotless 9th this morning against Cuba.

I'm requesting GOPHERHOLE to please give Gopher Baseball it's own multiple thread section and not refer to it as "Other Sports". One would think that after last year the program deserves to be dusted off and put on the top shelf.

There are no limits to baseball threads in this forum. And I promise that I'll wait to post 4 of any new threads to say put it in the baseball thread...
