All Things NCAA Transfers and NBA declaration

Randle Enters Draft

No real surprise here - (apologies if this has been mentioned earlier - I could not find it listed)

Kentucky's Julius Randle opts for the NBA - http://sports.yahoo.com/news/kentucky-freshman-julius-randle-enter-174027322--ncaab.html

How many from the Kentucky team have now declared? (anyone one of the starting 5 left?)

EDIT: only 2 have declared thus far (Randle and Young), but the Harrison twins, Johnson and Poythress have five days before the deadline to decide.

Looks like after Lofton, the transfer market for us will be closed. :(
So many good transfers out there available eligible right away in what has potential to be a great season. It's dissapointing that we didn't go after one. I still think we have a solid team!

What about the big commit you were posting about a while back? Has that ship sailed?

It appears they were referring to Zach Lofton, instead of Justin Martin when talking about a "big commitment". Not sure what would categorize him as a big commit, but oh well... Obviously with Lofton and Bakary, no room left for a transfer. :(

Just like there wasn't any room for Mbakwe to play in his last season. If Martin wants to be a Gopher, I think he will be.

So basically you knew nothing

Harrison twins returning....Kentucky staying stacked.

John Calipari just won his second NC. Kind of like when Florida returned everyone from the NC winners in 2006, they won the NC the moment all those guys came back. KY having 9 McDonald's AAs that all legitimately can be drafted, just unmatched by anybody else in college basketball.

Exactly. Total guess. Every time someone comes on with this definite in the loop big get....always stay clear. Glad I didn't get sucked into this one.

Naadir Tharpe is transfering from Kansas. He will be a senior but I'm not sure if he's graduating.

The Gophers could sort of use a PG in 2015 ...

True, but we would need to free up a scholarship for him next year while he red-shirts. So, unless there's a transfer, probably not an option.

PF Kamari Murphy transferring from Oklahoma State. Will have to sit out a year, but has 2 season of eligibility left. Averaged 6.1 ppg, 6.3 rpg this season. Played AAU for New York Lightning, so there could be a connection there or potential for our coaching staff to look at this guy.

Can't see us needing another PF with King, Martin, Gaston, and likely Illikainen (knock on wood) on the roster for 2015-16.

Cooke is the 12th transfer that's committed to the Cyclones' program since Hoiberg returned to his alma mater as in 2010.

Go Gophers!!

That's just an obscene number of transfers (especially since most/all of them are D1 transfers, not even JC). Does Hoiberg have more transfer commitments than regular commitments since he started?

It's nice to have guys with experience to plug and play, but with that track record now well established, I don't know why any high school senior would commit to that program.

Why take a highschool senior when you can have a college senior?

Which is why the rule needs to be looked at closely. Freddy is an extreme example, but the rub on this thing to me has always been that the big boys could use the little guys as a farm system. I'm not sure that's what college basketball is about. More power to the Mercer guys, most of them being seniors, and I suspect a few of them also had the chance to jump ship and didn't, and then did something very special in the tournament.
