All Things 2016 Gophers Basketball Recruiting Thread

I actually think Brock is a pretty decent player for Pulley and can be nice for them next year! But... he absolutely does NOT fit with Pitino's system here. I pretty much am discounting him as an option for the Gophers.

Rochester Post Bulletin: JM's Hurt raises his basketball stock

Michael Hurt has spent the last four months discovering that he's an ever better basketball player than he thought.

The Rochester John Marshall 6-foot-7, 190-pound junior came to the realization while playing on an elite Minnesota AAU team. D1 Minnesota has been all over the map this spring and summer, including playing in high-level tournaments in Dallas, Orlando and Indianapolis. But the notion of Hurt being a true up-and-coming star wasn't solidified until this past weekend in Chicago.

Evaluated previously as a low to mid-major college talent, Hurt has elevated himself into a high range now. The Big Ten Conference may be where he ultimately competes, with Minnesota showing strong interest in him.

Go Gophers!!

Ryan James has been talking up this kid for awhile now. Glad to see he's on the radar.

I wasn't saying I'm worried about how he will be as a basketball player because of his weight. I'm literally just amazed by that.

6'7'' 190 is pretty normal for a lanky teenager. Look at Corey Brewer and he's 28. You guys get so into recruiting you forget that these are children we're talking about here.

That's a good point. Watching highlight videos online is one thing, but every once in a while I go to a high school game in person and -- even when they are high D1 prospects -- I find myself thinking, "these are just kids. I don't see any of these guys doing well against college players."

I guess that's why the talent evaluators get paid the big bucks. To me they all just look like kids.

Michael Jordan was 6-6 190 upon entering the NBA at I believe 20 years old. Just a little perspective.

So if we are done with 2015 and our class will be Kevin Dorsey, Jarvis Johnson, Alex Illikainen, and Jonathan Nwankwo (time will tell)

So what is the deal with 2016 seems like we just have two scholarships open...

J. King and Morris...

I think a lot of factors go in to the uncertainty around the 2016 class, starting with the fact that we still have 3 scholarships open for 2015. A good coaching staff has an eye towards the future at all times, but most of this staff's focus still needs to be on 2015. Other than saying Amir Coffey is a major priority for the 2016 and that the staff probably will proceed the idea that more than 2 scholarships will be available, I don't have any other strong feelings for where they are headed with recruiting in that class. The ideal realistic scenario is that we take a step forward on the floor this year and thus, raise our recruiting profile slightly with the 2016 kids. The dream scenario is that Coffey commits early and spends the camp season helping the staff recruit a running mate or two.

"...has the potential to carry the torch for New York basketball." I like the sound of that...especially if he carries that torch to Dinkytown.

And if anyone thinks we are still recruiting 2014, the bevy of activity on the 2016/17 front leads me to believe we've moved on. Possibly keeping contact with a couple kids that may be available in fall in case something opens up.

/conspiracy

I'm assuming you mean 2015? If not I don't think anyone thinks we are still after 2014 players.

Ohh of course! I was forget about the time travel part of recruiting
