He is now ranked 69th in the 2014 class by ESPN. I don't think he was ranked at all before their most recent update.

He's also supposed to be visiting in a couple of weeks so I figured we could start a thread on him.

I also saw a Florida article that said the Gators are starting to show interest. Sounds like this guy could be one of the hottest spring recruits. Would obviously be a great pick up for us.

Pitino has a really good Mo Walker and EE story to tell him. These two have been great development stories in year one.
 

Yeah, he could even talk about how he took Oto from fringe D-1 basketball player to a contributing B1G PF.

And I think the biggest selling point will be our need for a big man with EE, Mo, and Oto all graduating after next season. Mahmoud would be the likely starter with Martin in 2015.
 

7'2" and only 190 lbs? He must be skinny?! (or me fat). I'm a foot shorter than him but 45 lbs heavier! :eek:

Not that it chances things much, but he is supposed to be up to 210 lbs now.

I am kind of like Norm on CHEERS. I am ideal weight if I were 11 feet tall.

After freezing my ass day after day this winter and moving enough snow to start an igloo village, why am I not optimistic that he'll sign here if he has an offer from a Southern school?

Mahmoud seems like a candidate to redshirt wherever he goes. That would work out really well for us, as Walker and Eliason will be seniors next year. Mahmoud would have four years to start for us, and he'd have another year of practice and weight lifting under his belt.

I think this would be an ideal signing, especially if he can block shots and run the floor like the ESPN scouting report says.

Sign him up. Center is a major position of need.
 

I don't have a Krystal Ball but I like our chances with Mahmoud. Pitino has shown a definite affinity for "M" men when signing recruits.

He'll come here because he and his family actually want him to get a quality education...

Have been doing some prelim college scoping with my HS sophomore daughter, and the U is now the most selective school in the Big Ten, even more so than Wisconsin or Michigan. That surprised me. Regardless of what that really means scholastically, I think it should be a selling point with recruits.

Edit: Oops, my memory failed me. Not as selective as Northwestern, now that I think about it again.

An additional factor for him coming here is that Mpls/St. Paul is an international community. I have friends who are Indian expats living in the Twin Cities. I was surprised to find out that there are over 30,000 people from India living in the metro. Now toss in the large Asian and African communities that we have and you're looking at a wonderful "stew" of culture right here. That's hard to find in most universities. I can see this as a wonderful selling point.

Which college? Is that an aggregate or is that for just general admittance? (lib arts?)

Don't know if that's been brought up yet, but you are absolutely right. My times as a salesmen in the Twin Cities had me develop quite a few relationships with Egyptians and many other middle eastern natives.

That's just the general statement her HS college prep person gave. Probably just a generalized overview. He mentioned the Carlson School, College of Science and Engineering and one other as being especially selective. I know the architecture school is extremely selective and rigorous.

Hey,thats no fair. There are people from Georgia and Alabama at U of FL. They be cultured real good!

Interesting, and definitely a selling point for some of our more cerebral recruits.
 

It seems Mahmoud has an ask account. There are a couple questions pertaining to Minnesota. He is also asked what would be the perfect city and he said weather was most important(no ice). because of that comment I'm not getting my hopes up. http://ask.fm/anosh33
