Ra'Shede Hageman NFL Draft Updates, Projections, Analysis & More

Go Gophers!!

Wonder why Ed Olson isn't working out.
Did anyone hear Tommy Olson on KFAN the other morning? He was pretty good on there, it sounds like he may be on there regularly, replacing Brock Vereen. Anyways, he said that Ed had pulled a Matt Birk and has lost 80 pounds on a low carb diet.

It's kind of funny that you mention this. When I was at a couple of the spring practices I was taken by how large the O linemen are when you get up close to them. My first thought was that it looked highly unnatural and long term not very healthy.

If true, and he has no plans for football in the future, good for Ed.

Big USA Today profile: Ra'Shede Hageman uses fury as football fuel

Only now, as the imposing Minnesota tight end-turned-defensive tackle prepares for the NFL draft, in which he could be a first-round pick, is Hageman beginning to take pride in everything he is and harness power from the things he is not.

When he hears from NFL coaches that he takes plays off, that he's lazy or not physical, Hageman seethes. "I've never been soft in my life," he said. But he promises that with time and knowledge of a relatively new position will come the confidence to let his alter ego take over.

"The one thing that nobody can argue," Minnesota defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys said, "(is) he has the skills to dominate and be an all-pro player in the NFL."

Go Gophers!!

per Sid:

• ESPN NFL analyst Mel Kiper Jr. released his updated draft projections and had Gophers defensive tackle Ra’Shede Hageman going to the Patriots at 29th overall. Kiper wrote that the Patriots would be interested because their interior linemen are getting older and Hageman could bridge that gap. “Hageman is the kind of player this coaching staff could turn into something special, and working in rotation this season, he could provide some immediate impact as well,” Kiper wrote.

O.K. Now that Kiper has piped in, we know for certain that there is one team 'Shede won't be going to.

In my mind, anyone who takes Hageman very late in the first round and beyond gets good value. Of course, I'm biased. Regardless, I actually think it'd be a great place for Hageman to land and ultimately succeed.

Haven't been able to find a replay or YT clip of it.

I was in Chicago this weekend and ran into a couple of 'Da Bears fans while I was wearing some Gopher garb. They asked me about that "D Tackle that you have", referencing 'Shede. They think the Bears might take hime but were worried about him "taking plays off".

He seemed to vanish for stretches as a time (Indiana game comes to mind), but does anyone really think he takes plays off? It feels like some of this is Draft Analysis Group Think, where one guy said that and then everyone repeats it. Thoughts?

No, they are correct unfortunately, if you watch film on him from draftbreakdown you will see a lot of standing around when he should be in pursuit. I do however believe that calling him lazy would be incorrect as he is one of the hardest workers in the weight room on the team. When his motor is on it is on though.

Predicting talent

Evaluating talent for the next level is a crap shoot. Who would have thought Marion Barber would have a better NFL career than Maroney-20% of people?

The better question would be name your own top 25 and see if in 5 years you had more quality starters than they did?

Or teams that pick way outside Mcshay's and Kiper's top 25 like the Raiders, who have drafting speed over talent, how has that worked out for them?

both todd mcshay and mel kiper are "equally inefficient" at predicting talent. Their record is worse than a weatherman.

I can't believe ESPN doesnt get somebody better...

That is a devastating analysis by a person who is a) not a gopher fan, and b) not named Kiper or Mcshay.

Big Shede made a bunch of spectacular plays the last few years including some beautiful QB dismemberments but I think most honest gopher fans thought he would be even more dominant last season.

Is he still developing, or does he really lack the desire or stamina to be an elite player. I don't think anyone can answer that question except Rashede and he won't day.

I hope he is drafted high and performs well solely for the boost it would give to the perception of U football.

He was only the second most productive DT in the country with his 13 TFLs, 8 passes batted down, 2 blocked kicks, INT and fumble recovery and most gopher fans expected him to be about a first team all big ten guy and an all american honorable mention yet he achieved third team, should have been first team.

Are we arguing??

Seems like Rasheed would do well with coaches that like to rotate their lineman;as he is inconsistent but if you want big plays he could make some in that kind of scenario.

per Shooter:

Ex-Gopher Ra'Shede Hageman, expected to be a first-round pick in Thursday's NFL draft, is to receive the Bobby Bell Impact Player of the Year Award on Sunday from the Vikings at the National Football Foundation's Minnesota Chapter honors dinner at the Minneapolis Hilton. Attending the multiple awards banquet: Zimmer, Rick Spielman, Chad Greenway and Cordarrelle Patterson from the Vikings.

Funny that Ra'Shede is actually a year older then Patterson

Apparently this guy doesn't think Hageman would be a good pick for any team in the first two rounds of the draft...

read that article and his point was what would every team's ideal draft be if everything broke perfectly for them. Most people list Donald as the top DT
