Man I love Coffee, kid has a chance to be great if his game keeps developing. Doesn't have hype of IW but he's a good player. Hope he gets a little more aggressive.

Amir seems like a really hard worker and I think he will continue to improve a lot. He was a little too aggressive at times vs Nebraska (1 on 3), but as he gets stronger he will become an even better finisher.

He has to get A LOT stronger because he gets altered/muscled off of finishes way too much. He has skill/finesse with the finish and a good foundation of a jumper. Potential is there but he's got a long way to go.

Calling Coffey "one of the best players in the Big Ten" is a huge stretch and frankly false, but yes, it is funny that they don't even seem to notice him standing there.

I really don’t wanna go down this debate with you. However, was he not preseason all big 10?

If Coffey developed a right hand he might be the best player in the league. It's actually a little scary/concerning how weak his right hand is. He misses out on at least 4-6 points a game because he tries to turn an easy right handed layup into a contested left handed layup. He won't be going to the NBA until he fixes that weakness.

He was, apparently. I honestly had no idea. It was silly (and media-driven, as the media chose this team) when he's the 4th-best player on his own team. I mean, honestly - how is Coffey on that list, but neither Murphy nor Lynch? How often does a returning Big Ten DPOY get left off the preseason All-Big Ten team?

per Souhan:

Gopher standouts Amir Coffey and Isaiah Washington and former Gopher standout Kevin Lynch attended, along with current Timberwolf Tyus Jones, who was mobbed for autographs at halftime.

“This was a great night,” Goring said. “And they’re really, really good.”

The first half played out like a football game — fast, physical and occasionally as if the ball were oblong. Suggs made two of his eight field-goal attempts; Jones was 2-for-12.

Both players asserted themselves at the beginning of the second half. Jones, especially. He made six of his team’s first seven baskets. While his outside shot often hit the front of the rim, he repeatedly scored on twisting, slithering drives, taking advantage of his remarkable quickness and body control.

Suggs’ final line: 19 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, one block, 5-for-18 from the field.

Jones’ line: 39 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists, one block, 13-for-33 from the field.

Dont disagree with your points, but I think that fact validates some random Twitter remark saying he's one of the best in the B1G 10.

Suggs 3-point shooting was pretty bad last night, but his overall game is quite impressive for a sophomore. Also impressive for Minnehaha, a 2A team (granted, a state tourney champ), beat the defending 4A state champs. This would be the perfect year to go back to that cool Sweet 16 state tourney they had back in the mid 90's where the class champs played each other (can't remember the exact format).

I am not sure what year or years they had that sweet 16 format, but El Amin was playing at Mpls. North and they did beat a pretty decent Staples-Motley team in a fairly competitive game. If you factor in the consolation rounds of the tourney, the "A" teams did very well vs. the "AA" teams, probably close to a 50/50 split. If I recall a couple of AA teams (Lakeville) were beaten soundly by the A teams.

I hate the current format, but it will never change back to the flatter format. I can understand the multiple classes for football, but not so much of BB.

If he played football for them, would he be allowed to play b-ball for us:confused:

Huge stretch?

Currenty #18 in scoring and #12 assist/turnovers in the B1G.

As mentioned he was pre-season all big ten team... And was all-Big Ten freshman team.

Suggs was sitting second row behind the scorers table last night a few seats down from Oturu and Omersa (who were sitting together). Oturu was sitting next to Suggs in pregame until tip off. Suggs was wearing a gold jacket/sweater thing and his buddy seemed to be very expressive in cheering for the Gophers and participating in the Rouser. All very small things but I'll take it at this point.

Towards the end of the game when Pitino was getting into it with the crowd trying to get them behind our team, Suggs seemed to laugh and began to cheer with the crowd. Another small thing to give me just enough optimism to be let down when his decision comes.

per Sid:

• Jalen Suggs of Minnehaha Academy averaged 16.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game this season as a sophomore for the Class 2A state champion basketball team while throwing for 1,195 yards and 15 touchdowns against three interceptions as a quarterback for the football team. Word is Suggs may still want to play college football despite being a five-star basketball player.

Gracious, that's amazing. lol I cannot even imagine being that talented and I'm told quite often I'm delusional. Jalen Suggs could own the state of Minnesota. He would be another name on a long list of standouts at Ohio State. Why doesn't one of these guys want to write history? The Jones brothers, Matthew Hurt, Jalen Suggs etc?

It just comes down to winning. With the way he talks about the U, Oturu may have been a Gopher regardless but getting in the tournament definitely helped. If the Gophers followed up the top 4 finish with another tournament appearance, we probably would be considered favorites for Hurt. All we need is consistency and not all of them but some of the better ones will stay home.
