All Things 2013-2014 Gopher Womens Season Thread

This is what I think about when I think of Borton.

It's time Norwood had a talk with her about the real world and how it requires results. Honest to god, have results ever really been expected of Borton?

Up on Miami 42-23 at half.

Banham helped off the court just before half. Looks like right knee. Didn't look good. Let's hope.

Banham on the court shooting warm-ups.

Announcer reports 'lower leg injury'......return doubtful.

We'll see.

Even with her on the floor , the big lead is disappearing fast.

Wow Zowie B picks up two fouls in abut 15 seconds and fouls out with 12 min left. 25 point lead now at 6.

What's with all the white leggings and arms? Looks tacky.

Haven't watched any Gophers ladies games since Whalen/McCarvel (sp) and wasn't very impressed. They sure do play hard though. At one point, it seemed like both teams went something like 0-20 from the floor.

Miami would've won if not for the horrendous first half. More athletic and much quicker. Could not believe how long it took for Borton to adjust to the pressure pass in by Miami. You never throw the ball to the corner. It immediately sets up the double team and you have no boundary to work with. You get the ball to the middle of court. It is basic 6th grade basketball. Two players that shouldn't be getting the amount minutes they are. Kyla Hirt and Sari Noga. The ladies have 4 " players ", that's it. The Swede is going to be very good. Her, Riche, Mulaney, and Banham will have to carry the team.

You're right about handling the press. But ... Hirt is shooting over 50% from the field and has looked a lot better this year. Noga plays tough defense and can hit the three pointer. They're not getting more minutes than they deserve when you look at the other options.

Thank goodness Riche stepped up. She hadn't played that well although she's had a new role. Really helped Miami was brutal shooting free throws.

Neither did anything last night. I believe they were 1-10 shooting. Neither Hirt or Noga can knock down shots against
a team with quickness that gets a hand in your face. Hirt was a complete liability last night on defense. Noga is alright on defense against teams that don't have great quickness. Shooting wise, she needs to be wide open to knock
down the three.

First half Gophers couldn't miss and Miami couldn't make. That all changed the second half.

I don't think I have ever seen the women wear gold unis these last few years. Do they even have them?

How long before Lindsey quits playing and starts coaching?

I think (dangerous, I know) that is what Teague is waiting for. Maybe he will get lucky again. :)

Banham sat out today after her knee injury against Miami.

Gophers trailed North Dakota 31-18 at halftime and trailed by 16 in the second half before rallying for an ugly 46-44 win. Mullaney hit a turnaround baseline jumper with about 3 seconds left. UND's 3 point prayer at the buzzer was short and looked partially blocked. Zahui had 25 points and Mullaney 10, no one else had more than 4.

2 weeks off now before UCLA and Auburn come to town for the Subway Classic the weekend before Xmas.

That's Amanda's 2nd double honor of the season. She also earned the double on November 25th.

The big Swede is a "player " Too bad she only has 3 other players that compliment her.

I get your point, but what results should be expected? Monson was 44-68 in conference and got canned. Tubby was 46-62 in conference and got canned. Borton is 96-86 in conference and still has her job. I think that is pretty much to be expected. Now, in the last four seasons she's 23-43 in conference, so this really is a make or break year for her. If she fails to produce results, do you doubt that Teague will make a move?

This. I know we made the Final Four more recently, but the women's job is still arguably more difficult than the men's basketall job. Before this century, winning 2-3 games per year in the conference was normal. Let's not act like we're UConn or even Michigan State here. Borton's still above .500 in the conference for her career and we've been to the NCAA's and even won a game in the last 5 years. All that said, it's time to do so again or make a change.

I don't understand this mentality that because we only won two or three conference games in the past, that is all we should expect. BS.......same with the men.

I don't care what anybody else says... Borton is a bad coach. I used to enjoy going to the lady gophers games a lot. Now I can hardly stand it because I have to see her waste talent like Banham. She's an arrogant witch IMO.

She hasn't had a winning conference record since 08-09. Her recruiting, especially in state, is very suspect. Ugh I just get frustrated thinking about it.

Stop sugar coating things, panolo. Tell us how you really feel without being so politically correct. :)

I don't think you read my post or howeda7's post very closely. I said this is a make or break year for her, and he said it's time to get back to the NCAA's or make a change. We both agree that her last four years haven't been good enough.

I was directing my reply more at the concept that has often been expressed here on GH, not so much your post.

I think it is better kept to myself what I am really saying under my breath.

I'm passionate because I miss it. Loved going to the games. There was about a 3-4 year span where it was so much fun to go watch the ladies. I even kept my tickets for a couple years after while only attending a few games. So much character, could play with anyone, I understood what the coach was trying to accomplish.

I wish the ladies all the success in the world but I won't go to anymore games while Borton is coaching.

UCLA closed the game on a 11-0 run yesterday to win 58-55 in the Subway Classic. This is a game the Gophers should have won and would've looked good even tough UCLA is struggling this year with only 7 available players right now.
