Jacksonville State quarterback Max Shortell was named the Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

In his Gamecock debut, Shortell led the Gamecocks to a 24-22 road win at Alabama State, where finished the game 13-of-23 passing for 216 yards and a pair of touchdowns and posted a 155.41 passing efficiency rating.

Glad to see it looks like things are working out for him. Seemed like a good kid and clearly was not a part of the long term plans here so nice to see him land on his feet and have some immediate success at his new location.
 

He definitely had his flashes here, so I'm not surprised he did well, especially coming in relief like that, he seems to particularly excel in that role.
 


Happy to hear he is doing well! Hopefully we can have continued updates on him as the season progresses!
