Per Rivals he had 2671 yards rushing, averaged 10 yards per carry and had 29 TD's. Not too shabby.

I'm happy we offered James Johansson! The #1 recruit out of North Dakota is from Fargo south. NDSU Bison thought they were gonna sneak him under the radar. Johansson also has a Yale offer. 247sports has him going to Gophers now.

Interesting. It surprises me because he seems like a power back and we already got one of those. But if Kill and Co. see something in him that's all that matters.

Kid looks head and shoulders better than his competition but having grown up around nd football I don't know exactly where that puts him in terms of speed compared to big ten level competition. Does anyone know what position he's coming on at?

I hope we get this kid just for the fact that I could say to my Bison Fan friends, "Hmmm, Fargo kid chooses U of M over NDSU? Huh, weird." In a heavily sarcastic tone, of course. All in good fun. :cool:
 

Johannesson's height/weight/strength/speed profile screams Mike LB. After a redshirt year, he'd hit the field in 2016 at about 6'2", 240, running a 4.7. Assuming that Lynn takes over MLB next year, that would be his senior year and JJ would be in the mix to replace him.

I hear ya Dpo. Gobi from 24/7 tweeted to someone he is being recruited as a RB. But, given his size, MLB is certainly a strong possibility.

Agreed, I watched him in the state championship last season and it seemed like every time he touched the ball he picked up at least 20 yards by either running through guys or right by defenders. He did seem very athletic and powerful at the same time in that game. Sounds like he is being recruited as a RB right now but he seems like a guy that could have some position flexibility.

I was thinking the same thing. He seems to have the frame and power to put on some weight and add strength to play lb. Just didn't seem like he had the speed to play rb at the next level. Seems like a solid guy and I'm never going to argue with taking the top kids from the directional states and if the offers stay as they are I can't see him heading elsewhere
 

LOL I think we all had the same thought after just looking at his picture. Not a ton of great 6'2" RB's let alone 6'2" power backs. He looks like a MLB or maybe an H-back.

Agreed. I'd be highly surprised if he's ever a feature back but he looks to be interesting prospect with a lot of possibilities. Plus, I'm always for taking a chance on kids from the outstate or the Dakotas.

The part I found interesting is the schollie offer this early in the game. It makes me think the staff must see some special possibilities as normally these types of players (outstate or not highly recruited from the area) end up as PWOs or late offers. He'll be an interesting guy to watch
 

Position flexibility seems to be a key for this staff.
Our starting RB was recruited as a potential safety or a RB.
Thompson, Cobb, Myrick, A Johnson, Dixon, Gibson,even Plsek all played some/ alot of RB in HS.
Lynn, Keith, Murray, Laster played WR.

Some of the other RB's we're after have really good position flexibility too. Guys like Kelly and Barnes could play RB/S/CB/LB. This guy certainly looks the part too, though if Poore offered him then maybe he's going to stick at RB.

Maybe our staff wants him to fill that mauler type roll that the Iowa back( forget his name) was so successful with against us the past year. We really don't have that load of a back coming up, Williams is big but hasn't been consistent in such a role.
