I think I will need to agree with you on this one station18.Originally Posted by station19

Losing Ball would certainly hurt, but I still believe they would be OK at RB. Every time Wisconsin loses one of their good running backs, there are people who claim they will be down at that position, but they always seem to be OK. People within the program say that Melvin Gordon may be a better back than Ball, and they still have James White, Vonte Jackson and Jeff Lewis. Good luck this season.
none of those rbs are heisman candidates. sure, the badgers might be ok, but it would be a huge blow to the program to lose the player that many people think is the frontrunner for the heisman. a heisman would mean prestige, money, better recruiting, bragging rights and another step toward national respectability that badger fans crave. yes it would hurt and yes the badgers would be ok, but i'm guessing that bert and berry are not as nonchalant about it as you.
ball getting jumped is very meh. but if there is some sort of cover up of the actions of a player that the university of wisconsin is pimping to the heisman board, then that would be pretty serious. bigger than a guy getting jumped, bigger than a few football players getting in a fight.
it seems that there is blood in the water and the sharts at espn are circling madison.

the badgers must be destroyed
You ran with a different crowd than I did @ the U. The kids who drank too much often or got in fights....flunked out routinely. Hard to keep up on engineering work when in jail holding cells. Drug use....never saw it with the group or any other people i knew or hung out with.

The question yet to be answered, but left begging is...... If the victim of the July 27th assault claims Ball and other football players were involved, and the witness to the assault of Ball stated he heard something to the effect one down nine more to go, there are 9 other football players who are implicated how long before these players are identified? This is bigger than Montee Ball. What happened at the house or appartment of the Wisconsin football player that errupted into the first assault must be answered. Bret has a news conference scheduled for Monday, I would bet the questions will be to the point. The Athletic Department is walking a dangerous road. If they take the high road, call the team members in and find out who and what went on and turn it and them over to the police is one way. The other you bury that information, and hide those people and stonewall the questions. This probably has reached Barry and the University President. We have seen what happens when you cover it up to protect the program. Again who are the 9 players, and what was there involvement, and what are you going to do about it?
husker, ruppert and supadupafly quick run over to Madison and demand the answers. Who knew what and when did they know it? Blow the lid off this massive cover-up. Let them know you won't stop digging until the truth comes out!

I think it's safe to say that I definitely hung out with a different group in college than you. Very few people who I knew well flunked out of school but I we almost everyone that I knew drank too much, there were sometimes fights amongst drunk college kids, and there was definitely drug use.
I think RedPoo was just pointing out that those kinds of shenanigans are pretty common place amongst a lot, and I mean A LOT of students at the U, athlete or not. I agree with him.
8/4/12 12:20 PM PT -- The Madison Police Department released a statement today saying they are indeed investigating the fight that took place on June 27th sic July 27th and they have determined that Ball was present, but are not certain if (he) sic was involved in the actual fight. The statement also says, "The detectives have developed several persons of interests on the attack of Montee Ball, and are following up on subsequent leads."

Now that we have confirmation the fight took place and Ball was there, who were the other Badger Football Players?

The Madison Police Department, through information developed by detectives, have determined that there was a fight that occurred Friday night (July 27th-28th) which involved UW students, members of the UW football team, and other individuals that were not affiliated with the University of Wisconsin's Athletics Department. We have also determined that Montee Ball was present at the location of that fight, but we have no information that leads us to believe that he had any involvement in that particular event. There was one individual that did sustain an injury during the fight, and was subsequently treated at a local hospital for that injury. There is a potential for charges to be pursued, related to the investigated fight, but no charges have been filed. As this investigation is ongoing, specific details outlining the identities of either victims or involved parties are not being released.
The report goes on to state that while Ball was attacked on a public street, the incident does not fit the pattern of a string of recent random attacks in the city. The Madison Police Department will not comment further on the case as it pursues leads that may result in charges -- both for the attack on Ball and the previous fight that allegedly involved members of the Wisconsin football team.

Go Gophers!!
You're both right, in my estimation. The Badgers, and Ball's strength, comes from the consistency in their offensive line play. As long as you have a B10 caliber RB in their backfield, he will produce behind their offensive line. Indeed, losing Ball may only cost a game, or two if they're unlucky, for Wisconsin. However, the potential impact of losing a Heisman candidate, and worse, a Heisman winner, is where the real damage is done.
Of course, I've been searching for ways to find a Badger downfall for the last decade+, and it has never come to fruition. The fact still remains, you only remain on the right side of a coin flip so many times. In this circumstance, however, they have the follies of Penn St and Ohio St, which are, for the moment greater, and provide insulation. If Wisconsin takes the challenge head-on, I don't think there is a major impact. Ball and a few others miss early pancakes, Ball still gets Heisman hype, Wisconsin should be undefeated headed into B10 play. If they try to skirt around it, then who knows.
