Official "Viva Las Vegas!!" Thread - Trip Plans, Ticket Qs, Tailgating, Casino Advice

I haven't seen anything published on this yet, but someone asked Andy Seely in the Signing Day chat this morning about it, and he said he had heard it was a possibility, but nothing was set in stone as of yet.

Just an FYI for anyone who may be booking travel already for the long weekend out in Vegas....

Would that be the season kickoff game then? Similar to the Badgers-UNLV game this year? Although it would be awful for people who've already booked travel, I'd like it b/c it's more national exposure.

Perfect, I would be driving my son to the U then and going right thru that night.

Well, my summer plans had already changed enough to make Vegas basically impossible, but this would seal the deal.

We booked Saturday to Sunday (8 days). This would be perfect!

This is precisely why I didn't book travel months ago - I knew it could possibly get moved to Thursday, just like the Tulsa game in 2005, which was moved from Saturday to Thursday in mid-March. This is going to be a 24-hour trip for me regardless of what day the game is played, so I'll wait until we get confirmation.

Wow, thanks for the heads up. We were going to book soon, arriving Friday morning. Now we'll wait!

Go Gophers!!

Anyone know when they would lock in a definite date? With the number of Gopher fans going, they should really make it official.

The last time a B10 team kicked off the season against UNLV on national TV, what bowl game did it lead to?

Just sayin'...

Anybody hearing anything about tailgating festivities for that game?

We're going to make the trip no matter what day the game is--- but it looks like we don't want to rent a car. Will the Goal Line Club be there?

I had heard about this too, though second-hand, and that person was told it would probably be figured out by the end of January. I hope they don't move it...that's three more vacation days I can't really afford to take.

They better lock in soon... I want to start booking and I'm deciding on making a drive and swingin through the Grand Canyon for a full week+ trip or flying straight in on Th night. Kinda odd to still be moving days (not time).

I live in So.Cal. 243 miles from the strip. I have been to the Badger games there and will be at the Gopher game. Thursday nite is better tv exposure, only 5 games that day, and hotel rooms for the 3 day labor day weekend are expensive. Expect a late kickoff due to heat (100 at night), small stadium, unlike the rose bowl, get tickets ahead of time. It will be all Gopher fans. enjoy!

I just went to the UNLV signing party (not really a party, but it was OK). I asked a guy that I know in athletics about this rumor. He said the same as what is indicated above - it is being discussed but nothing will be announced until shortly after March 1). He said that UNLV is behind the idea for a couple of reasons. 1) TV - the possibility of a national broadcast is attractive. 2) The hotels jack room rates on weekends and really jack them on holiday weekends. So the thinking is that more Minnesota people will make it when the trip is more affardable. He said that Wisconsin brought fewer people on holiday weekends than other times, and they wanted as many visitors as possible. The UNLV guy was surprised, and pleased, to hear that the possible change in game day/time had already appeared on this page. Go Gophers!

For me, moving it to Thursday would be a perfect option! Hope that is true so I could fly in Wednesday and out on the redeye Friday night.

Hold those Vegas plans.

The game could be switched to Thursday night according to the Goal Line Club. We had originally planned a Friday to Monday gig.

The stadium is about 10 miles east of the airport/strip/downtown of Las Vegas. Alumni Association (all folks are invited) may have a BBQ like we did at USC. Keep checking!

Tweet from Doogie:

"Maturi told me yest. the "U" would likely ok the move to Thurs. for the UNLV game because school isn't in session. UNLV does want to move."

Go Gophers!!

Any other big games that night? Would be cool to get a nationally televised game on ESPN to kick off the season

I'd also like it moved up to Thursday!! Let's get it done!

Glad I waited on my flight. Almost booked the Sun Country flight for the 30th. That does not get in until 5:30PM. Guess I will start looking for a Thursday morning flight.

No matter what happens, some are gonna get pissed off.

You got that right. It is always a bummer when your on my side of the fence! Those that are going will have to cheer for me...

Or it could be on BTN too. According to this, South Carolina @ Vandy will be the ESPN kickoff game. I wonder is they will go with a double-header?

BTN doesn't have rights to the game b/c it's not at a B1G school. The game would likely be on Versus. That's where the UNLV games have been on the Thursday night kickoffs in the past b/c Versus (or whatever it's called now) has the national rights to the Mountain West games.
