Good quote from Zags latest article on Reid:

Didn't Marcura say something similar?

I don't think so.

Well, not exactly the same. Granted it certainly sounds like we have the best shot at Reid out of the big three, but didn't Marcura say something along the lines that it would be an honor to be the first to commit to MN? It's hard to take anything, be it positive or negative, as truth in this age of social media.

The problem with extrapolating Macura's statements onto Travis is that they're different people. Yes, Reid Travis is not J.P. Macura.

Just because Macura didn't choose the Gophers doesn't mean he lied when he said he liked the idea of being our first 2014 commitment. You can like the idea of doing something without actually doing it. I liked the idea of having Pizza for dinner tonight, but I chose to have pasta instead. Doesn't change the fact that I liked the idea of having pizza.

What are you going to do with that extra pizza?

Enough! I am having pizza for lunch now thanks to this!

Btw, Reid almost used his official here this weekend. He will end up holding off till the 25th though.

Go Gophers!!

I thought the original date was the 25th, not this weekend, but whatever. Hopefully we actually get an official.

Now Amelia is saying the 25th is set. She circled back around to what was already known. Strange couple of tweets there.

Amelia Blog: Travis may announce on Nov. 15 on ESPN

The elder Travis told Gonzalez that ESPN called last night to ask if Reid would wait until Nov. 15 – two days after the start of the fall signing period – to announce his college decision, which ESPN wants to broadcast nationally.

“He is giving that some thought,” Nate Travis said.

Everybody set the calendar for the 15th of November. Hopefully this doesn't go into the spring. One commit could lead to more players willing to follow suit.

Also, if Travis comes here, our chances of landing Jarvis Johnson skyrocket.

I'm not sure why Amelia thinks Travis is such a long shot, I think if Duke gets Looney and Stanford gets Humphries that puts us ahead of them, than it's us vs Gonzaga, unless Travis wants to split minutes with someone in his class. I guess they could argue that we recruited Martin, but I think Travis knows that he's better after dominating Martin on the AAU circuit. Now Jones is a long shot, I'll even say Vaughn is a long shot (but less of one) Travis, by reading in between the lines, we are very much in the mix

Uh oh.

That's pretty much a dead give-away that it won't be Minnesota. For the most part with regards to football and basketball verbals on ESPNU, they're not gonna' televise verbals for anyone not going to a brand-name school. ESPN probably knows from a pretty good source (the family?) that it's a done deal he's going to a brand name. In this case that's probably good news for Duke.

Let's hope his ESPNU announcement is one of the exceptions and not the rule.

I think they'll do this for any of their top 25 players who are committing near the signing period deadline. I see your point, but in this case I don't think Travis has made his decision yet.

Wasn't Marqueis Gray's nationally televised? For some reason I thought it was.

Even though this is Football and the player was number 1 in the nation, Robert Nkemdiche had his verbal (maybe letter of intent, not sure) televised because there were big name schools involved in the decision. However, Robert choose Ole Miss, not a traditional football powerhouse, but his decision should have been almost certain because he wanted to play football with his brother at Ole Miss.

Similar situation, but clearly different circumstances. It does give the gophers a chance.

I disagree that this is a dead giveaway. I seriously doubt ESPN knows where he's going, but they probably THINK he's going to Duke, just like a lot of people do. He's a top 25 player in their rankings though, so they're probably interested in televising his decision even if they don't know where he's going (which they probably don't, since Reid probably doesn't know for sure yet either).

Not that I think ESPN has any inside info, but I could see them pumping up younger Pitino's first 5-star commit. That would be quite the story and create some serious buzz for them. I think they just want to have the top kids in the country announce on their channel.
