... if we had just kept Kevin Payton and Travis Busch on the team this year.

Busch in his game last night played 33 minutes and had 13 pts on 5-8 FG shooting.

And I bet he would have set a few more screens for our shooters Hoff and Wes and maybe we could have won a couple of our single digit losses.

Payton in his last game also played 33 minutes and had 17 pts on 8-12 shooting from 2pt land.

And maybe he could have helped warn Nolen of the dangers of classroom trials and tribulations. KP had a strong positive attitude on the bench that might have eliminated some of the distractions we have had this year.

Also our geographically closest ranked NCAA team UNI (20-2) beat Wichita St last night with Tartan's Ahelegbe scoring 18 pts.

FYI in his last 2 games Duluth's Cory Johnson for Valparaiso has scored 41 pts on 16 - 21 FG shooting.

The Big 10 is far superior competition to the leagues these guys are playing in, no offense to them or their strong play in their respective leagues lately.

Interesting post and it reminded me of an earlier thread about Bostick and the poster's comment about revoking the JUCO player of the year vote from anyone who voted for him (I'm just too lazy to search for it and link to that thread.)

I think it is important to look at the competition (as ShowinGoldyLove pointed out) and also who else is on the team (both the Gopher squad and their current team's roster) and what is being asked of that player. If, for example, Cory Johnson was on the Gophers this year, would he have the opportunity to take 21 shots over the course of 2 games? Is he the #1 scoring option? Similarly, whose minutes would Busch be taking?

I thought about this with the Bostick thread - how would he be doing if he was on my Hawkeye squad this year or another similarly scoring-challenged team? (I'm sorry; it's true.) Would he be getting more playing time, shots, plays set up specifically for him? Would his stats be better? Does that make him a better player? Or would he just seem like a better player because he is more talented than his teammates? This is alll hypothetical, of course, and it's just something to think about.

I do think if Bostick had transferred to the right team( a mid-major?) he would be enjoying a great season (offensively!!!). It's just a bad fit for both partys. Tubby demands defensive intensity.

I, for one, was sorry to see Busch go. He had intensity and would do all the little things> Tubby had no choice and couldn't foresee the waste that was royce white's scholarship, but we do miss that chippiness and effort this year.
 



Must admit, I'd forgotten that Travis left for Colorado State for his last year of eligibility. Gotta' say, we could sure use the kind of contributions that he gave the Gophers last year. ... hustle, some grit, defense, could shoot a little bit, his experience. Who would have thought before the season started that the Gophers would have been better off with Travis on the roster than Royce, or Trevor for that matter?
 

SS...Just think, we would be undefeated if millions2spare played for the Gophers. :)
 


Those guys were worked over...Busch...yes I agree he did hustle...he basically won the Iowa game at Carver Hawkeye arena for us...but he was better off transfering elsewhere...Nobody expected this whole Mbakwe Royce ordeal to ever occur...we made the right move there of letting him free...I don't even want to talk about Peyton...this guy couldn't even dribble for peat sakes...all of his shots were bricks...and he obviously showed nothing in practice! Tubby would have played him more if he did. Much happier with Cobbs and Devoe.
