What was with all of the stoppages of play today? Was there something on the floor? Roof leaking?

Besides that, the refs seemed to really like delaying play between free throws, out of bounds, etc to talk to each other or players.

Not my favorite way to watch basketball, takes alot atmosphere out of the game.

Goldy

There was some debris from when Goldy was hitting that drum/trash can lid. They needed the brooms to sweep it off. The other times were just guys that had fallen.

Trash can lid

The whole sequence with the trash can lid was hilarious. Goldy comes out with some ratty, gold-painted trash can lid that has a hand-drawn sign on it and starts hitting it with what looks like a snare drum stick. The paint was just raining down off the lid, covering the floor. It was obvious from 100 feet away that he was making a mess of the floor. Nevertheless he walks around beating on it all over one end of the court. Then as he's heading off the floor still hitting the lid, the drum stick breaks in his hand.

Then they try to start play and the MSU bench is going nuts, pointing at the floor and holding up towels saying it needs to be cleaned. But nobody does anything and the refs finally just start play back up again. Once they finally stopped play the PA guy calls for "sweepers, we need sweepers." But the "sweepers" that come out are two kids that are literally about 5 years old, who start wandering aimlessly around with those circular floor sweeping things, not knowing what they're supposed to do. The ref took the sweeper from one of the kids and was showered with boos. Finally an actual adult with an actual wide broom was found who cleared the floor.

We were were basically convulsing with laughter about the whole thing. It's one of those really pathetic, low-rent moments that Gopher athletics occasionally provides.

Great Post. Thanks

This ref crew....

Wasn't that Teddy Valentine reffing? His crew loves to be the "show"....that had something to do with all the stoppages.

Speaking of the floor, did anyone notice what the leprechaun (izzo) did to our floor with his shoes??
