Former Gopher coach Dan Monson fired by Long Beach State

Thank you for correcting me but I am sure there was some disappointing bench time that contributed to an uninspired performance vs. the lowly Pilots.

    Cashman coming home

IAs many of you doubtless recall, in 2018 the Gopher defense was a mess until Rossi suddenly found the right buttons to push. Purdue came to town with their clever schemes and things looked bleak. When I come back to Minnesota to see the Gophers once a year, I always hope for interesting...

Former Gopher coach Dan Monson fired by Long Beach State

I was there to see the Gophers lose to Portland. Earlier that day, D. Joseph and Andre Hollins reportedly got into some kind of "disagreement" at either Disneyland or Knott's Berry Farm. Both missed minutes as a disciplinary measure and the Gopher sleep-walked to a loss against a WCC doormat.

Cam Christie = a young Quincy Lewis

In another era I would be thrilled by this team that has no seniors (provided that Fox can come back). Hate to say it but my ability to enjoy the present is tempered by the possibility/likelihood that the big fish will "purchase" some of our kids, now that they have shown they can play.

Izzo on MN: But now, they're damn good. I mean, they're good enough to be an NCAA tournament team. Theyre good enough to compete in the BT every night

Nice to hear Izzo say something nice about Minnesota. In past losses to the Gophers, his compliments felt kind of back-handed and condescending. I didn't see the game. Did he stomp around and have tantrums when things did not go well? How about ref-baiting and whining for calls?

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT PENN ST IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Gophers did what Bo Ryan preached long ago. Make more free throws than the opponent attempts. But what has to be done to make this happen? Attack the basket & play disciplined team defense. Easy to talk about, not easy to achieve.

One of the best CFP semi-finals ever?

I wonder if his 2 serious knee surgeries will scare off some NFL teams. Would the Vikings roll the dice and trade up? Will Penix fell far enough to be available if they keep their #1?

    The Final Straw

Gophers up 24-0 just before halftime. They give up a blocked punt touchdown, NC State gets the 2-point PAT, then dominates the second half behind a freshman quarterback named Philip Rivers. Tellis Redmond runs for about 230 yards for Minnesota. The holes are still there in the 2nd half but, in...

    Two Point Try

PJ went for two early vs. West Virginia two years ago in Arizona with Annexstad's brother and it worked. This time it felt like he was kind of letting Kesich have some fun as a reward for a great season.

Saturday Tradition: Our way to early 2024 Big Ten Power Rankings (16. Minnesota)

Thank you, but not really feeling any angst. Just noting that lazy media types generally love to simply recycle last year's results in their forecasts. Unfortunately, in this new landscape where money talks more openly, it is easier for them to be right without investing much effort. I have...

Saturday Tradition: Our way to early 2024 Big Ten Power Rankings (16. Minnesota)

This is so predictable. Even when the Gophers come off a good season, the pundits are generally unimpressed. A bad season seems to erase prior successes and the Gophers have to start from scratch in rebuilding credibility. Granted, the Big 18 is now more challenging but the negativity here seems...

Does PJ Fleck run his running backs into the ground?

I am not defending Fleck's tendency to stick with one back but when John McKay was asked about O.J. Simpson's number of carries, he said "He doesn't belong to a union"

So happy for Cole and Darius!

Love the Gil Fash reference. The 1973 Illinois game had to be the all-time Gopher win with the worst statistics.

Chiefs giving off serious Iowa Vibes after last night

Can't stand it when fans of losing teams forget that no game is determined by a single call. What about plays that the losing team did NOT make during the course of the game? Was approached by an irate Iowegian in a San Diego bar last week. I had on a Gopher hoodie and asked him if he knew what...

    IT WAS TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The bonus to this game was seeing Iowa fans go from euphoric to devastated in just a few moments. Seeing them with their hearts ripped out was delicious. I also love saying "schadenfreude"!

Is this already a succesful season?

Especially if the Gophers don't keep that bowl winning streak alive.

    Floyd and The Axe

I live in California and will be coming back for the MSU game. Would love to visit Floyd and The Axe. Does anyone know if they are on public display somewhere? Thank you!

I am so happy to have been wrong. Congrats to those who dared to believe.

    We out-Iowa-ed Iowa

Not sure about MSU not showing up next week. Fleck got the Gophers ready to play with fervor after that shellacking by Michigan, though he did have 2 weeks to build them back up.
