    State Tournament 2024

Oh, and I think McKinney should be able to contribute to the Gophers next year, especially on the defensive end with her length and athleticism. Also looks like she is a good free throw shooter. And McGill is definitely a P5 player who should do well at Florida. On a sidenote, I thought that...

    State Tournament 2024

Wow...the quality of high school basketball in Minnesota is impressive. I watched all of the televised games and there were a ton of terrific players. Olson is a terrific player. Would have looked great in a Gophers uniform and would have contributed significantly immediately. Crump is a...

    B1G Game 5: Gophers host Nebraska (1-14-24)

Gritty win against a quality team. Sanders added a lot on both ends of the court, to a point where I wondered why Coach P didn't have her and Battle on the court together in the second half (instead of GG). Not a great offensive game for Braun, but she played solid D. Good contributions from...

    B1G Game 1: Gophers Host Purdue (12-10-23)

And only 8 turnovers. . I like the improvements this team has made since the startt of of the year. They've showed a grittiness that we haven't seen in quite some time. Love the defensive improvement. This team is well-coached and it's obvious that the players are on board with the coaching.

    B1G Game 1: Gophers Host Purdue (12-10-23)

Another nice win. I agree with Rex that it looked like the Gophers halftime plan to get their offense going was to get the ball in to Sophie and let her shoot it or kick it out to an open teammate for a shot, but then Sophie got a quick third foul to start the third and that never happened...

Game 8: Gophers Host Drake (12-2-23)

Looking forward to this game. Wll give the team, the coaches and the fans a chance to see how the Gophers measure up against what would probably be a middle of the pack BIG team, like the teams the Gophers will likely be competing against this year for a possible NCAA berth.

Game 7: Gophers Host Norfolk State (11-29-23)

I like what I'm seeing so far this season. The defense has been much better, continuing to improve. Hart seems to be integrating well into the offense...and she'll kick it out to an open teammate if she can't get a shot. Battle already showing that she is an improved player. Nice to see that...

Game 3: Gophers Host NDSU (11-15-23)

I've really been encouraged by the bench play. So nice to have some depth. Some very athletic players coming of the bench, especially Hollway and Johnson. Nice to have a backup PG that can get to the hoop. And I've also been impressed by the hustle' that players like Czinano and Hollway...

The Athletic's Chantel Jennings: The Outlook for Minnesota

Seems like a fair analysis from Chantel Jennings. I am also hoping that the Gophers can work their way up to the middle of the BIG this year and possibly get themselves in a position to get an NCAA tourney berth. I think I'd deem that as a successful season. We all know that the BIG is loaded...

BIG TEN WBB 2023-24 Outlook and Overall Early Rankings

A fairly decent next season assessment for the conference rankings, I think. That being said, I'm not sure Iowa will be the top team in the conference. I'm thinking Indiana or OSU...although Indiana is really going to miss Berger and OSU once again has some new transfers to work into their...

    Rose into the Portal

Totally disagree with SHGopher who said that there were only two starting spots for 3 positions for Rose, Hart, and Heyer. I'm of the feeling that all 3 would have started, with Battle and Braun the guards. Rose was an all-conference honorable mention and she was at times last year the Gophers...

    NCAA Tournament 2022-23

The taunting incident seems to have pushed the conversation of the lousy officiating into the background. Once again, we saw that the officiating in women's basketball still isn't where it needs to be. Hard to tell if the officiating affected the outcome of the game or not. We'll never know...

    NCAA Tournament 2022-23

I'm thinking that interest in women's basketball and the women's tourney will continue to grow substantially in the upcoming years. Reasons: 1) A lot of great players returning, including Clark and Bueckers. 2) The increased parity in the tourney itself. Traditional powers such as UConn...

Dawn Plitzuweit's Introductory Presser on Monday

Well, it should be pointed out that Frese loses players (star players) almost as fast as she acquires players through the portal. She's lost players like Mikesell, Reece, Owansu...but she's always been able to go out and replace them. I'm hoping that Coach P won't lose key players at a high...

Some good news on the Gopher WBB front

Not sure if any of these young women are at the point yet, where they could contact any of the incoming recruits, but I'm hoping that someone is corresponding with the recruits in the absence of a coach. After all, for the players that stay, it's now their team. A couple of random things to...

Some good news on the Gopher WBB front

Very encouraging news. As I've said before, as difficult as the past season was, I felt strongly that great things could be ahead for this year's group of players. And kudos to Mara for getting out in front of this. Love to hear similar news from the others in the group. As many will...

If Johnston isn't the guy, who would be next for the Gophers?

Looks to me like Tony is throwing a lot of stuff against the wall and hoping that maybe something will stick. And, he's implying that Johnston is the favorite, something I doubt.

BREAKING: Mark Coyle and Lindsay Whalen announced today that Whalen will step down as head coach, effective immediately.

Not sure how to feel. Disappointed? Relieved? In my opinion, hiring Whalen was a no-brainer. But didn't work out as well as we all hoped it would. My biggest concern now is whether we'll be able to retain the players, who, in my opinion, are talented enough to provide the foundation to make...

Braun snubbed from B1G Freshman of the Year

Yes, definitely a poor choice of words in the headline. It's obvious the person who posted hasn't watched BIG women's basketball this year. McMahon was the clear choice. That being said, congrats to Mara.

    B1G Game 18: Gophers Host Purdue (2-26-23)

Good bench production for the Gophers...from Katie B, Gradwell, and Cayton. That loss might come back to bite the Boilermakers when NCAA tourney selection rolls around. Petree had a great game for Purdue.
