View Full Version : Gus Frerotte Should Stop Whining

Surrounded by serious talent he played adequately in a one dimensional fashion (good arm; no mobility) for 10 games. He got hurt and was replaced by Jackson who has played well for a game and a half. When Jackson lost his job he kept his mouth shut. Frerotte has been whining all week about not getting the start. Chilly is making the right call by going with Jackson (whose play still scares the hell out of me) and Frerotte should stop acting like a victim.

I haven't been paying that close of attention. He's actually been whining huh? wow, it is surprising. I had him pegged as a backup who just wanted to milk the high salary for a couple of years and spot start. I guess it's a rare athlete that can't set aside his personal desire to play and step back to see the bigger picture.

If I'm Chili, I'm much more comfy with Gus on the sidelines and Jackson playing. at least if Jackson mucks it up then you know the back up can right the ship. Jackson coming in is a big ??.

Jackson has a bigger upside, better to see if he's hot and go to Gus if not then the other way around.

There isn't a QB out there who would be happy with what has happened to Frerotte. I don't blame him one bit for publicly complaining about it. Fferotte is showing the same amount of loyalty that Childress showed him.

Except remember that it was Jackson's job. Gus isn't a solution at QB, he's a stop gap. Nothing has happened to Gus. Jackson was the starter. He mucked it up, Gus got the nod. Gus got hurt, the starter goes back in. The starter looks better than Gus, Gus sits.

Jackson starting is strategically important for the vikings for three reasons.

1. Bigger upside.
2. We need to know if Jackson has a future
3. He did very well last week and Gus has been less than average the last few weeks.

Plus it's embarrasing watching him flop two to three times a game. He's old, banged up. Give him a breather and feel good to know you've got a healthy quality backup going into the playoffs.

Loyalty has nothing to do with it because there is no loyalty. Nothing was promised to Frerotte when he signed and nothing is owed to him other than his paycheck, which he collects regardless whether or not he contributes. He's not playing because the coach has determined that the team has a better opportunity to win with Jackson, just as the coach determined in Sept. that the team had a better opportunity to win with Frerotte. Who knows if the coach is right, but it is his call and the guy who gets benched shouldn't plead his case to the media.

So I guess you're saying no QB should ever get benched then, huh? If a coach benches the starting QB, then he is being disloyal I guess. Looks like just about every head coach in the NFL is disloyal.

Childress needs to play the players that will give them the best chance to win, and he owes that to the entire team.

>>Gus Frerotte Should Stop Whining<<

All millionaires should stop whining, but especially millionaire jocks.

On the other hand, the Vikings clearly lost a critical game yesterday due to its young and inexperienced backfield. Peterson needs some coaching, and Jackson is not the answer.

You can't play with a "handle" on the football. Give me MB111 any day of the week. You also don't see him in the coaches ear after a bad play. Before all is said and done Peterson will end up being a "cancer" to this team.

Agreed. Childress' job is on the line so he should play the guy who he thinks gives him the best chance at winning. But it should come as no surprise to Childress and everyone else that Frerotte is not happy about. Very few NFL players in a similar situation would keep quiet about it to the press. Why pick on Ferotte? Players complaining to the press is part of pro sports, and just one of many reasons why I can't stand the NFL, NBA, MLB, and all the rest. For those of you not old enough to remember, being a pro sports fan used to be really fun. Then free agency and multi-million dollar contracts happened.

ruppert,

>>Before all is said and done Peterson will end up being a "cancer" to this team.<<

That's beyond ridiculous. The kid just wants to win.

I think there are very few players who want to lose. I don't know much about the player, but that seems like a flimsy excuse on the best of days of making excuses.

What a crock of horse manure.

Where have I heard this sentiment before? Oh yeah, Randy Moss is too big a distraction, Kevin Garnett can't get it done, David Ortiz is too fragile.

Brilliant. Let's get rid of one of the best players in the league because he has a bad day.

I thought you didn't care about the Vikes, anyway?

monk,

There's wanting to win and then there's wanting to win.
