View Full Version : Big games coming up for the Vikings

The next handful of games will be absolutely critical to the future of the Vikings, in more ways than the obvious.

Sure, Sunday and/or the following Sunday will likely determine whether or not the Vikings make the playoffs but I would argue they mean much more than that. The next 2, 3, or more games will go a long ways towards determining the future of the franchise.

Specifically, is Tarvaris Jackson the QB for the Vikings for the next several years? Or do the Vikings start over from scratch next year with a trade, free agent, or first round pick?

I'm pulling for Jackson. Sure he's been solid the last 6 quarters but even moreso, the players on the team say the right things about him and I don't mean the obligatory "He's a really good player," or "We believe in him", etc. I get the feeling the players/veterans like what they see in him.

There's no reason the Vikings shouldn't beat Atlanta. A predominantly running team with a good young QB, matched up against the Vikings running defense and very formidable pass rush. It's a matchup that favors the Vikings across the board in my opinion. Furthermore, the Falcons aren't exactly world beaters on defense.

One way or the other, we'll know more about Jackson's and the Vikings' future in a month or so.

We all pull for Jackson. We have no choice. While many teams build an offense around a QB, we've mysteriously chosen to build an offense without a QB.

If the Vikings can split their final two games, they can finish 10-6. (Recall that they really should have won at least two early-season games as well.) That's not bad for a team with one of the worst QB situations in the NFL annually. With a bit of luck, they should be able to beat Atlanta at home. I think NY will expose several of their weaknesses.
