View Full Version : Disapointing Twins Offseason

The Twins went into the winter meetings talking about upgrading offensively at both shortstop and third base. There was also talk of adding an arm in the pen. What did they end up doing? NOTHING! Absolutely nothing. While their forays into the free agent market haven't been great recently (Rondel White, Tony Bastista, Sidney Ponson, Ramon Ortiz, Adam Everett, Mike Lamb), that doesn't mean they should stop trying to upgrade their team. It looks as if we are going into the season with basically the same team we had least year, minus Dennys Reyes.

While the team last year wasn't horrible, I highly doubt we will hit close to .310 with runners in scoring position next year. Adding another power bat at either shortstop or third would have helped this team immensely in my opinion. Also, our bullpen was abysmal last year and we haven't done anything to upgrade this year besides a rule 5 pick-up.

I am a little dissapointed as well. One impact trade/FA is all they needed. They had salary room, no real obstacle yet did nothing. I realize it's not over but still.

I do however think given the age and experience level of last years team it actually improves over last year just staying intact. Maybe dicounting some players playing over their heads at worse I think we're about the same, which is still pretty competitive. Plus, we still have the salary room should we be in the race come the break. We have a lot of flexibility.

We're only halfway into the offseason.

Our bullpen wasn't abysmal last year--it was abysmal in sept. b/c they were exhausted. Lets see what dding Mijares does. Also, Humber appears to be ready to be called up.

In terms of no real obstacle, another team asking for far more than a player is worth is an obstacle. None of the rumored trades I heard made any sense at all for the Twins.

Agreed, there is still a lot of time left. I certainly don't want the Twins to just make a deal if it doesn't make sense to them.

No matter what, I'm very excited about the next few years. The pitching staff should be even better this year with more experience.

The Wilfs are the only owners in this market who spend money. The irony is that they will end up as the only owners not to get a taxpayer funded building.

After Smith's horrible trades last off season maybe this is a good thing.
If they do make a move at 3b or SS he better be excellent defensively. Pitching and D will always what makes or breaks this club.
