And if so will it be on viewing display for the game Saturday at the Victory Walk? If so can you poor glasses of Grain Belt Premium or Summit Pale Ale from it into plastic cups? I will pay $3.00 for a beer poured from Detlaf's stein. Is Stein for slab of Bacon still on?

Nope. The Slab is being put to good use this year. I can't yet divulge the details, but the previous offer is hereby rescinded. The Axe, however, is still in play. We've made some modifications to it since a Gopher last held it, not that any of the current Gophers would know. See y'all on Saturday.

At least until those chodes stuck it away in an athletic trainers closet and said the trophy was lost. Mysteriously they have claimed possesion of the slab of bacon trophy and get to keep it when it was the original traveling trophy. Even though it was supposedly retired they still have it and put the scores on it. This should be a bone of contention that Joel Maturi should be able to help resolve. Put the slab of bacon back up at the game or stop displaying it and putting the scores on it if it is retired. The point is, they should not just be able to keep the slab of bacon.

Lost & Replaced
After the Gophers' 1943 victory, a ceremonial exchange was supposed to take place, but the officials involved could not find each other on the field. Wisconsin sent the trophy to Minnesota's locker room. The Gopher's coach at the time Dr. George Hauser refused to accept it, stating he believed "such trophies should be out for the duration" (of World War II). [1] The trophy disappeared and was replaced by Paul Bunyan's Axe in 1948.[2]
Found
The Slab of Bacon was missing until 1994, when it was discovered in a storage room at the Wisconsin Athletic Department during a renovation of Camp Randall Stadium. Although allegedly "lost", it had been maintained for a period - when it was officially "found", the scores of every Wisconsin-Minnesota game from 1930 through 1970 had been printed on the back of the slab.
The Slab of Bacon is currently housed in the Wisconsin football office at Camp Randall Stadium. "We took home the bacon," then-head coach Barry Alvarez said, "and kept it."

"I took a parrot," Barry Alvarez's son said, "and microwaved it."
