Daniel House and I got some good stuff from media day. 1st of all, bit thanks to Dan Reisig and the Gophers communication squad. They changed it up, and we were able to get a lot of one on one's with the guys, it was more of a round table discussion. They also make sure guys like Washington were accessible, and stayed longer to get interviews, so we're really grateful.
We'll be posting the full interviews with the players that we did on the GopherHole podcast this week. Until then, here are some clips and tidbits:
- Pitino on Washington's minutes: "it just depends on the game." He said he played 16 minutes in the scrimmage with Creighton.
- Pitino said early injuries forced him to install the offense and get shots up. He believes the team has benefited from this focus.
- Pitino on Coffey: "we need him to shoot more." He said he needs to find shots within the offense. It can make him a "complete player."
- Pitino on UW-GB scrimmage: "it breaks your heart to see what's going on down there. If we can help out in any way, we want to do that."
- Pitino: "I think that Reggie is an elite shot blocker; as good as anyone out there. His rebounding has greatly improved."
- Pitino on Lynch's shot blocking: "I don't think that's where he's getting the bulk of his fouls." He believes they come when he gets tired.
- Pitino on Fleck: "I've never seen anybody more committed to their culture. To see that belief and confidence, it's great to see."
- Pitino told Isaiah Washington he wasn't practicing hard enough. Isaiah came back today smiling: "I had a great talk with Nate last night."
- Pitino: "it's good to see Nate teaching him. When those older guys can help the younger guys, that's important."
- Pitino on expectations: "I told our guys. We were picked 13th last year and we showed that was irrevelant. It's the same this year."
- Pitino:"Guys look good. I think they are ready to play some games. Practice has been going very good."
