This season, Mason’s Gophers have scored at least 80 points in each of their first four games, all wins, as they prepare for their toughest test of the early season, a Tuesday night visit from Arkansas. For the first time, Mason can be a facilitator as much as a scorer.
“I feel so relieved now that I have so many options. I can pass here and he’ll get a bucket or I can pass here and I know he’s going to make his layup,” said Mason, who is third on the team in scoring at 13.5 points per game. “It makes us a better team. If the bigs were the only guys that were efficient, they could easily shut down the bigs. But we have so many weapons that it’s hard to do that.”
A Gophers team with, “so many weapons” was hard to imagine a season ago when they won just two Big Ten games.
