Big Ten Conference women’s basketball is in the midst of a scoring revolution.

Throw out the conference’s old methodical, grind-it-out stereotype. The 2016 model is all about up-tempo, high-powered offense.

That change is reflected in statistics released by the NCAA last week showing scoring in the Big Ten is up 9.98 percent over last year. While scoring is up across the nation, the Big Ten’s increase is roughly double that of the other major conferences — Big 12 (5.54 percent), SEC (4.98 percent) and Pac 12 (4.37 percent).

Four of the top 10 scoring teams in the nation are from the Big Ten, with 12 of the 14 conference teams ranking in the top 84. The national average is 65.03 points, a figure surpassed by every Big Ten team except Rutgers.

Conversely, only three Big Ten teams are among the top 100 in scoring defense, with four teams ranking 300 or worse among the 344 teams ranked

Agree, the philosophy is to try outscore the oposition with defense being secondary.
