More Golden Gophers!

I thought this was interesting.

The mascot for Hueytown, AL is the Golden Gophers!
The Hueytown Mighty Fighting Golden Gophers.

Cool. I notice they use purple and gold, if they ever change colors Maroon and Gold are excellent colors for Golden Gophers.

When I wore my Gopher stuff when living in Alabama...

Somebody would walk up to me and tell me they were from Hueytown and were a Golden Gopher, then tell me the story of how they got that name. The also would tell me that they played at Seibert (Sigh burt) stadium, and funny how the "U" had a field of the same name. I would explain to them that it was baseball, and pronounced and spelled Siebert (See Bert) but that it was fairly close. This was in the late nineties and I would be invaribly asked if we would ever be good again. I do not miss those days.
