The last thing anyone expected was for the University of Minnesota's most highly touted freshman Kevin Dorsey to grab attention off the court before he starred on the court this season.

Being suspended for the final exhibition game for an undisclosed academic situation was a rude awakening for the talented point guard.

Dorsey, who will play his second game with the Gophers (1-0) on Sunday against Louisiana Monroe (1-0) at Williams Arena, was allowed to play in the season-opening 76-58 win over Missouri-Kansas City on Friday.

"It was tough being on that bench," the 6-foot, 175-pound Maryland native said. "I wanted to be out there helping my team. It was tough sitting on the bench, but it really opened my eyes -- to let me know (Richard Pitino) doesn't have to have me. I got to put in the work that I needed to do off the court to play on the court."
