Ohio State AD to chair Selection Committee

For those who think it benefits a conference to have one of its representatives chair the Selection Committee (I don't), Gene Smith takes over in 2010-11.

Although, I'd argue that while the Selection Committee sent teams all the country last year for the tourney (surprisingly and seemingly ignoring the podding system during a time of economic troubles), somehow the 8th-seeded Buckeyes got to play 75 miles from their home campus in Dayton for their 1st round game.

Smith being on the Selection Committee HAD to play a part.

Point taken.

Oddly enough, two of the Buckeyes' last three NCAA appearances (also 2006) have ended with losses to lower-seeded teams at a venue (Dayton Arena) where you'd assume they have a home-court advantage.

Looks like next year the best OSU can hope for is Milwaukee, as I would assume it's a mortal lock the Big 10's best team (most likely MSU or Purdue, if not both) will be placed in the Bradley Center pod.
