...at the gate, anyway.

A friend of mine emailed this to me today. Attendance figures were announced today, and Louisville was the #1 attendance as a percentage of the capacity of the arena.

Full figures can be found at this link, but here are the Top 10

1. Louisville
2. Kansas
3. Wisconsin
4. Xavier
5. Tennessee
6. Purdue
7. North Carolina
8. Wichita State
9. Oklahoma
10. Maryland

"Capacity of arena" is an important distinction. Even TCF Bank Stadium will be near full capacity this season. Back in the days when the Barn held 17,000, the Gopher basketball team was routinely in the top 10 in average attendance.

Where is the esteemed Duke program on this list? Doesn't that arena hold 9,000-10,000? Based on media hype, you would think it's been sold out for decades. It looks like Wichita State and Xavier are tougher tickets.

The rankings are based on percentage of capacity for teams using a home arena with a listed capacity of at least 10,000.

Duke doesn't appear to be elligible

If you'd like to look at total attendance for this past year, here's the link:

Minnesota found itself back in the top 25 this year, at #23 with 13,400 for the season. Other teams in the top 25 include Wisconsin (#6), Illinois (#13), Ohio State (#14), Michigan State (#15), Indiana (#16), and Purdue (#18). It's no wonder why the Big Ten leads the nation in average attendance every year!

Oh, and FYI...Vanderbilt was #25.

and the Big Ten is Number 1

Yes, indeed! This is the 33rd SEASON IN A ROW the Big Ten has led all conferences in average attendance.

Thanks for the link to the report, alltimetwinsfan ... good stuff!
