And yet, in this anything-goes Big Ten season, is it truly too late for Team Pitino? They've certainly seemed to hit on a formula that's working, with swarming defense forcing turnovers at a record pace and Andre Hollins remembering that he can indeed carry a team if necessary. Throw in one surprise contribution per game - five second-half steals for Carlos Morris against Purdue, 10 second-half points for Nate Mason at Iowa - and suddenly those narrow defeats have become narrow victories.

If anything has been made clear this season it's that Wisconsin and Maryland are the class of the Big Ten and everybody else is beatable. The Gophers still have two games left against the Badgers, but the rest of their schedule - at Indiana, vs. Northwestern, at Michigan State, vs. Penn State - doesn't look as daunting as perhaps it once did. Splitting their final six games would leave the Gophers 8-10 in Big Ten play heading into the conference tournament. That would also leave them squarely on the NCAA bubble after an 11-2 run through their nonconference schedule offered so much hope heading into Big Ten play.

No, nothing has been wrapped up, and yes, the Gophers' season could still careen into the ditch at a moment's notice. But Pitino knew what he was looking for heading into this week. He knew his team could keep the momentum going and perhaps even salvage its season and set itself up for a postseason run with a road win. Don't let the "or two" sidecar fool you. Beating Indiana would be huge, but at this point, it's already been a mission-accomplished week for the Gophers.

Go Gophers!!

At this point not sure why he's lumping Maryland with Wisconsin as "the class of the Big Ten". Terps are good, but they're 3 games back just like everyone else.

Wisconsin is far and away the best team int he Big ten. Let's hope that the Gophers can catch Wisky in coast mode when we play them here. Their Big Ten title should be clinched by then.

Gophers lost to Wisconsin in both games last year.

78-70
81-68

Avg score:
79.5 to 69.

I'd gladly lose one by 21 if we win the other one by 1

You're forgetting one. Won the 81-68 game @ the Barn and lost in the BTT.

Screw Wisc. Lets beat them both games and put that BIG title in doubt. Wisc. Has a brutal stretch at the end(vs MN, @MD, vs MSU, @MN, @OSU) if we can continue our recent level of play. both MD and OSU on the road paired with a MSU team that is never exactly easy to play against. they could be pretty beat up by the time they play @MN.

Overall WISC. probably had the easiest BIG schedule so far and maybe overall. They play (home win)IND, (home)MSU, (home they won)PUR, (home)ILL, @OSU, @MD only once... Thats the top of the BIG this year right there...

He mentioned it, but forgot to check his facts about what the result was.

Yep, it's face the facts, not check the facts.

I see the Wisconsin games as opportunities. Go into them thinking you can win. They're not unbeatable.
