PiPress: Defense becoming fun; players talk setting school steals record

They were five steals away from having the most steals in a game in school history, which was 21 against Rider College in 1990.

Senior center Mo Walker said the team had been talking about breaking the school record for steals in a season. The Gophers have 260 after Saturday, which is 39 steals away from eclipsing the 2007-08 team’s mark.

“We’re trying to do something special by breaking the steal record,” said Walker, who finished with 11 points, five rebounds and three steals for the third time in four games. “We’re on our way to do that. We all know it’s there. We all know that’s one of our goals this season.”
