Apparently the MCTC's student senate has recommended dropping their basketball program as a result of limited budget resources and the school's President has the idea under consideration:

Last week’s Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder reported that Minneapolis Community and Technical College’s successful basketball program will be eliminated after the 2009-10 season, based on a student senate recommendation that called it “a high-cost program that served a limited number of students” (“MCTC slates basketball funding for the chopping block,” May 28).
Story here

This program has been highly regarded under coach Jay Pivec. And, from what the story reports, a fair amount of pressure has come from local supporters to maintain the program.

I hadn't seen the original story but ran across this info from Twin Cities Daily Planet which provided the above link. If it's been cited previously, my apologies.

They are going to use some one time money to keep the program running this year (2009-2010) and then hope they get enough donations to keep it going beyond that. It looks like it is safe for this year.
Ironically it was their trip to the national tournament that put them over budget.

Athletic depts never plan for extended postseason play and the enormous bills that pile up. At that point, they usually have to rob from other budget lines within student services.
