Pick per Day for 12/6/08 - Day 23

Again this year, we're back to the "rags" of Friday offerings followed by Saturday's "riches" of 55 games. The Minnesota-Cornell game is one of those 55 Deadline for picks is Noon, Saturday.

For those participating but at a relaxed rate, I'll probably set up two divisions in a couple of weeks. One will be for the seriously addicted and will probably include those who have made at least 20 predictions for games ending December 13. The other division (the occasional predictors) will be for those who have less than 20 predictions for games ending December 13. So there's still time for many of you to make daily predictions if you wish to be in the "upper" division.

Small Print
Here's the way Pick-per-Day (PPD) works:

1. You make one pick per day by selecting a team and the point spread that's offered.
For example, if Florida is favored by 22.5 points versus Toledo and you choose Florida, you pick Florida -22.5
If instead you think that spread is too generous, you pick Toledo +22.5

2. The pick must be in required format (see#5 below) and submitted by that day's deadline.

3. Picks on weekdays are usually due at 5:00 while picks on weekends and holidays will usually be due at 12 noon.

4. Please verify your pick was recorded when the posting is Closed and please check the next days tally to make sure I correctly credited you with the win or loss. Mistakes will happen and I'm more than happy to go back a day or two and figure out what went wrong and then make any corrections. But I really don't want to go back a couple of weeks and try to recalculate the wins and losses.

5. All picks must be entered using this format:
Picks that are submitted after the deadline without making prior arrangements or do not use this format will not be counted in that days tally

6. If you want to change your pick, please add a new post rather than editing your original pick and please note it's a change in the header. (It's easier to pick up and make the change this way.

7. Every now and then, the provider of the Lines has a strange point spread. I reserve the right to scratch games where the spread exceeds normal expectations or if the picks are subsequently corrected, the correction is substantially different than the first pick and the original spread gives a participant an unfair advantage.

In other words, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

8. Later in the season, I may create two divisions to reflect those who participate regularly versus those who are more sporadic. This is done to reduce the likelihood of someone getting a relatively high winning percentage and resting on their laurels.

Updated PPD Standings after 12/5 Games

Friday's results were just under .500 and largely caused by the unrequited love-fest for Texas A&M. Seven picks (thus Friday's consensus pick) had A&M winning by at least 5 (actual line was -4.5) and Arizona was leading until the last 20 seconds when Texas scored a 3-pointer for the win. (Arizona missed their shot in the last seconds).
In other games:

• I goofed up on pasting the spread for the South Carolina game so a number of folks had to either re-confirm their pick or revise it. Only Gopherfan10 hung with SC at -22 and SC won by 24.
• Marist Red Foxes win at home despite being 3 pt underdogs. Folks who pick on Fridays have to know their MAAC teams -- sometimes they're the only show in town.
